How to set up and use WhatsApp Companion Mode

-

Last year, WhatsApp launched the Companion Mode feature, which enabled users to connect more than one device to their WhatsApp account. By doing this they were able to carry on chatting regardless of the device they are currently with as chats sync between devices. If you own more than one device, you might also want to know how to make use of this feature and link your WhatsApp account to all your devices for convenience.

With this feature, WhatsApp permits users to have their WhatsApp account on up to four devices. This is ideal for businesses that need multiple moderators for their customers or users that constantly switch between their devices. If you fall into any of the two categories, this article will show you how to link your WhatsApp account to up to four devices.

How to set up WhatsApp Companion Mode

Using Companion Mode on your WhatsApp is similar to using WhatsApp Web on your desktop or tablet. However, the process of linking a secondary smartphone to your WhatsApp account as a Companion Mode device is slightly different. Here you will need to have the WhatsApp application installed on the other device as it wouldn’t work on the web.

Please note that with this feature, certain controls are limited to the device to where the WhatsApp account is signed. These controls include updating your live location, and your status. Additionally, as a security measure, WhatsApp will log out of the companion device if it hasn’t been online for 14 days.

So now that you know all about the WhatsApp Companion Mode here is how you can set it up for usage:

  • Install the WhatsApp application on your secondary device
  • Launch the app and tap the Agree and Continue buttons
  • Next, tap the three-dot icon on display and select the “Link As Companion Device” option
  • This will generate a QR code that you’ll need to scan with your primary device to give the companion device access to your WhatsApp account
  • Now open WhatsApp on your primary device and tap on the three-dot icon at the top right-hand side of the interface
  • Select the “Linked Device” option and then tap on the “Link a Device” button.
  • Unlock your device
  • Scan the code with your primary device

Taking the steps above will give you access to your WhatsApp account on your secondary device. You can view texts and reply to them on either device, update your status, view the status of your friends, and so much more. This is a convenient way to operate a WhatsApp account from more than one device.

At some point during your usage of this feature, there might be a need to remove your account from the secondary device. To do this, on your main device, click on the three-dot button and then on linked devices, select the secondary device and tap the logout option. This will remove your account from that device.
