What is the Spotify Collaborative Playlist

Spotify

Back in 2020, Spotify announced the launch of the Collaborative Playlist. This feature helps users of the music streaming platform to create shared playlists and add their friends to enjoy the songs they love the most. The launch of this feature brought a nice way for friends to enjoy each other’s taste in music even when living miles away from one another.

Spotify Collaborative Playlist lets users add songs to a playlist, so other members of the playlist can enjoy these songs as well. These members of the playlist are called collaborators and are added by the creator of the playlist. They can add songs to the playlist, hence bringing in their music taste to the group.

Just like collaborators can be added to the playlist, they can also be removed if necessary. With this feature, users can get into an entirely new genre of music. So, now that you know what this feature is all about, here’s how you can make use of it while streaming on Spotify.

If you want to make use of this feature on the Spotify platform, then you’ll need to be a subscribed user. If you’re making use of the free Spotify platform, you won’t be able to create or join a collaborative playlist. Once you’re subscribed, you can then proceed to create a playlist and add your friends as collaborators.

Creating a Spotify Collaborative Playlist is just like creating a regular playlist. The only difference between a regular playlist and a collaborative playlist is that you add people to the latter. So to create a playlist on the Spotify platform, take the following steps:

  • Open the Spotify app on your smartphone
  • Tap on the “Your Library” tab on the bottom navigation bar
  • Next, tap on the Plus icon at the top right-hand corner of the interface
  • From the pop-up page, select Playlist
  • Now give your playlists a name.

By following these few steps, you will have successfully created a playlist for yourself. With the playlist active, you can start adding songs to the playlist to start streaming. You can now add your friends to the playlist as collaborators, so they can also add their own songs as well. For this, take the following steps:

  • Open the playlist that you just created
  • Tap on the three-dot icon or the icon next to it on the interface
  • From here, you can design your collaborator invite link to share with your friends
  • Note that the link you create expires in 7 days after it is created
  • Tapping on the profile picture icon will reveal everyone in the collaborative playlist
  • Tapping on the three dots beside the profile picture of a collaborator will allow you to remove them.

By taking these few steps, you’ll be able to create and take control of your new Spotify Collaborative Playlist. Simply add songs to the playlist by tapping on the three icons beside the song and selecting the “add to playlist option.” Now you can share your friend’s taste in music with them as you go about your daily activities.
