Top TV Series Worth Waiting for in the Second Half of 2024

-

A number of TV shows from the first half of 2024 have been officially presented. We’ve already had a chance to watch “The Three-Body Problem,” which made the discourse machine work at full capacity, and the series “Fallout” from Amazon continued the trend of truly excellent video game adaptations, making the long wait for the second season of “The Last of Us” a little more bearable.

STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE

But there’s still a lot more to look forward to – from new “Star Wars” spin-offs to the long-awaited return seasons of already well-known series. If you love TV shows as much as I do, or if you just need a light at the end of the tunnel to cross the finish line of spring, I present to you the most anticipated ones in the second half of 2024.

The Acolyte

June 4, Disney +

Created by Leslie Headland, “The Acolyte” is the most intriguing project in the lineup of “Star Wars” series since “Andor” that we’ve heard about. The series is set at the end of the Republic era (approximately 100 years before the release of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace”) and is a mystical thriller that follows a Jedi investigating a series of crimes.

Acolyte

The eight-episode show features Amandla Stenberg, Lee John Dje, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Like “Andor,” “The Acolyte,” as expected, will be a dark exploration of a galaxy far, far away, but while the previous show focused on grounded human stories, the new series promises plenty of Force users and lightsabers. Judging by the trailer, it will be a sometimes philosophical but always gripping murder mystery that offers a fresh perspective on the recurring narrative of the franchise, “Good vs. Evil,” “Light Side vs. Dark Side.”

House of the Dragon, Season 2

June 17, HBO

Those of us who were burned by the final season of a certain series might be reluctant to embrace another spin-off in the world created by George R.R. Martin, but the premiere of “House of the Dragon” has enough of what we love in its predecessor to silence all skeptics, and not just them. Moving back in time to the kingdom ruled by the infamous Targaryen family not only allows us to better understand the house that ultimately birthed Daenerys herself but also introduces us to new women who inspire both conflict and admiration, from Rhaenyra’s ascent to power to Alicent’s quiet manipulations ensuring that her children will eventually rule the Seven Kingdoms.

Будинок дракона 2 сезон

The tension within the family, which had been brewing for many years depicted in the series, finally reached a point of no return in the first season when Alicent’s son, Aemond, and his dragon, Vhagar, killed Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys, and his dragon, Arrax. This loss undoubtedly sets the course for the events of the upcoming season, as Rhaenyra simultaneously mourns her child and, with her “blacks,” vows revenge on the “greens.” All will be resolved later this year when the second season premieres, and you can be sure – it will be thrilling.

Women’s Land

June 26, Apple TV+

The comedy-drama thriller “Women’s Land” is inspired by the eponymous bestselling novel by Sandra Barneda, although it’s not quite an adaptation. Starring Eva Longoria as Gala, a New York socialite whose husband disappears, forcing her to flee to a Spanish wine town with her mother and daughter when his shady financial dealings come to light, and a pair of inept assassins on their tail.

Land of Women

“Women’s Land” also stars Santiago Cabrera, Victoria Bazua, Carmen Mora, and Gloria Muñoz. While details are still scarce, “Women’s Land” seems poised to be a great summer series with its picturesque Spanish countryside vibe. It promises generational conflict and buried secrets, as Gala’s mother has ties to the town they fled to. Add to that some quirky small-town charm and a couple of bumbling assassins, and you’ve got all the ingredients for a compelling drama.

The Umbrella Academy, Season 4

8 августа, Netflix

After three fantastic seasons of superhero shenanigans, the Hargreeves siblings return for the fourth and final season. Based on the comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the new season of “The Umbrella Academy” will focus on the aftermath of the third season and the Sparrow Academy, as most of the Hargreeves have lost their abilities and find themselves in a universe that has been completely rebooted after Allison pressed the button.

Luther Sloan’s wife has disappeared, Diego and Lila have run away to raise their child, and the family seems to have fallen apart. The final season promises new characters and villains for the Hargreeves to contend with, now without their abilities.

Andor, Season 2

In the fall TBA, Disney+

While the release date for the second season of “Andor” is still unknown, we can still hope for the positively reviewed series to possibly debut in the fall. At the Star Wars Celebration in London in early 2023, fans were treated to a teaser for the second season, further heightening expectations. This teaser trailer showcased Cassian Andor at the heart of the rebellion – right where he was headed at the end of the first season, finally taking steps to become part of something bigger after reluctantly being drawn into the fight. In the trailer, fans also got a glimpse of where the storylines of Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Elizabeth Dowden, James McArdle, and Mohanad Bhayyer are headed – all of them having the power to both create and destroy their destinies.

Andor

Undoubtedly, “Andor” was one of the best series to debut in 2022, thanks to Gilroy’s deep understanding of storytelling, an impressive team of writers and directors, and an incredible cast. The series transcended the typical “space opera” and showed viewers that “Star Wars” is still capable of telling sharp, reality-based stories that George Lucas originally intended to tell in the original trilogy.

Daredevil: Born Again

TBA, Disney+

While Marvel seems to be scaling back on the number of series and overall television content it produces, fans couldn’t be more excited about one of the few series set to premiere in 2024: “Daredevil: Born Again.” It’s a continuation of Matt Murdock’s story portrayed by Charlie Cox, the blind lawyer by day and superhero by night. Although we’ve seen Matt in films like “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” “Born Again” will be the first to properly explore Matt’s story since the Netflix series “Daredevil” was canceled in 2018.

It’s expected that the series will continue the events initiated in “Echo,” which also premiered in 2024, as Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise their roles as Daredevil and Kingpin in both series, and “Born Again” will also feature Frank Castle portrayed by Jon Bernthal, last seen in the second season of “The Punisher.” Fans eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for the lawyer who moonlights as a vigilante and what he’ll be up to once properly integrated into the MCU.

Пінгвін

You Season 5

In the winter TBA, Netflix

It’s easy to understand why the fifth season of “You” is one of the most anticipated series of 2024 and a personal favorite of mine. The upcoming season, set to conclude the popular series, has the potential to either solidify or undermine its legacy. “You” follows the hopeless romantic Joe Goldberg, who goes to extreme lengths to win over his love interest, quite literally. Taking Joe’s quest for love and his obsessive tendencies to an international level, the fourth season of “You” delivered masterful twists and a shocking finale that demands viewers’ presence for its fifth season. In the upcoming season, Joe finds himself in an intriguing position – not only has he returned to the scene of the events in New York, but he also possesses resources that make him untouchable, thanks to Kate’s assets and connections.

ТОП серіалів, які варто чекати в II півріччі 2024

Since it premiered on the streaming service Netflix, millions of people have been following the adventures of the unstoppable killer. The realization that Joe’s quest for happiness and love is coming to an end understandably creates excitement – how will this story conclude, and will Joe manage to evade deserved justice once again? While it’s still early to tell, finding out will undoubtedly be intriguing.

What series are you personally looking forward to?
