According to statistics, when a tourniquet is applied correctly and in time during combat, fatalities from massive bleeding can be reduced by 85-90%. Research conducted after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan indicates that at least 20% of casualties could have been prevented with proper tourniquet use. In Ukraine, the development of quality tactical medicine has already saved thousands of lives—both military personnel and civilians.

A high-quality, tested tourniquet is crucial for effective bleeding control. One such device is the Ukrainian-made SICH-Tourniquet. Designed for quick and efficient application, even without assistance, it has been part of military medical supplies since 2014. This tool is capable of rapidly stopping massive limb bleeding, whether used on a casualty or in self-aid situations. With proper training, applying it takes no more than ten seconds.

  • Design Features. Every detail of the SICH-Tourniquet is engineered with precision. It is the only tourniquet of its kind capable of stopping bleeding on limbs ranging from 5 to 40 cm in diameter without causing soft tissue pinching. Additionally, it is approved for use in K9 applications, making it suitable for canine limb injuries as well.
  • Metal Components. The SICH-Tourniquet is built with a metal core, ensuring durability and reliability in critical situations. Given Ukraine’s rapidly shifting climate—ranging from severe frost to intense heat within weeks—the key structural elements are made from high-strength materials. The windlass is crafted from duralumin, providing a balance of strength and lightweight properties. As a result, the tourniquet remains fully operational in extreme conditions, from -40ºC to +50ºC.
  • Hook-and-Loop Strap. The SICH-Tourniquet features a specialized hook-and-loop strap designed for a secure grip, ensuring consistent pressure retention after application. This proprietary design alternates soft and rigid fixation zones, allowing the tourniquet to function effectively even in wet, snowy, bloody, or contaminated conditions. To manufacture this strap, the company developed an automated machine called “Royal,” which minimizes human error by precisely executing every stitch according to strict specifications.

Serhiy Linnik, the founder of pre-medical aid courses, has been using SICH tourniquets in both training and real-world applications for the past 10 years. Having tested various foreign alternatives, he asserts that Ukrainian-made tourniquets can compete with the best international counterparts. According to Linnik, they are reliable, easy to use, and effective, made from high-quality materials using modern manufacturing techniques.

“It’s like an iPhone, but Ukrainian—affordable, high-quality, and something to be proud of. People recommend it, and it even looks good! We conduct massive hemorrhage control training sessions daily in different cities across Ukraine, teaching hundreds of people. These tourniquets don’t break, don’t tear, and most importantly, they work effectively,” said Serhiy Linnik.

Today, tourniquets are more than just emergency medical tools—they are high-tech products that save lives every day. By combining innovative materials, modern manufacturing processes, and practical experience, Ukrainian developers have been able to create medical equipment that meets international standards and competes with leading global counterparts.
