The Geely and Mercedes-Benz collaboration has brought forth yet another offspring, the Smart #5. This new vehicle has been unveiled in China, and it comes with a very family-friendly SUV design and some impressive specifications on paper. Just like its predecessor, the design of this new vehicle from Smart (a collaborative effort between Chinese EV maker, Geely and, German luxury automobile brand Mercedes-Benz) comes with an eye-catching design.
The Smart #1 that hit the launch stage last year is a compact SUV, but its successor, the Smart #5, is a larger SUV. Not only is this new vehicle larger than its predecessor, but it also comes with a larger 100kWh battery pack producing more power as well. Buyers of this new EV can get it with two drivetrain options: a rear-wheel drive option that puts out 358hp and an all-wheel drive option that puts out 638hp.
The performance output on the option above is available to buyers who go for the Brabus trim. For the regular Smart #5 rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive trims, this vehicle puts out 335hp and 579hp respectively. Smart opts to use the Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery pack for the rear-wheel drive model.
Those who purchase the all-wheel drive model will get a possibly larger Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Both drivetrain models bring fast charging technology to get the battery up and going in under 15 minutes and go up to 700km on a single charge. On the outside, this vehicle comes with a rather boxy shape that is similar to its predecessor and on the inside buyers can trust Mercedes-Benz’s quality and styling.
Just like the Smart #1, the Smart #5 comes with front and rear light bars that span full-length across the vehicle. However, this new vehicle tweaks up the design of the light bars, making them bolder and more imposing to onlookers. Overall, this new vehicle from Geely and Mercedes-Benz will stun potential buyers in the EU as well as the Asian EV market.
