Construction of a plant for the production of Bayraktar UAVs has begun in Ukraine

Construction of a plant in Ukraine to produce Bayraktar drones by the Turkish company Baykar has begun. The start of construction was announced by Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine.

“Speaking of the Bayraktar plant, which has been discussed in Ukraine for several years, construction work has already begun on this plant. The plant has started to be built in reality, not just on memoranda,” he said.

Mr Kamyshin added that the plant will be built in Ukraine and will also produce other things that cannot yet be disclosed. He recalled that there had been scandals and negotiations around the plant, but now the country has taken real steps and the plant is gradually being built.

In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine and the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey in the field of strategic industries during the working visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Republic of Turkey.

According to the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, the document provides for cooperation in strategic industries and technologies between companies of the two countries and support for the implementation of existing and launch of new projects in these areas. In particular, one of the key areas of cooperation is the development of capacities and capabilities for the production of various types of drones.

The Memorandum also provides for areas of cooperation in research and development in the field of autonomous systems, space and other technological sectors of strategic industries of the two countries.

In addition, in an interview with Bloomberg, Oleksandr Kamyshyn recently said that Ukraine is beginning to increase its ammunition production. For example, in June 2023, the country produced more mortar and artillery shells than in the whole of 2022.
