France has provided Ukrainian prosecutors with new equipment needed to investigate war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin stressed that Ukraine highly appreciates the support that France has provided since the first days of the unjust and unprovoked Russian aggression. In particular, it concerns the restoration of justice. As part of this, prosecutors have received new equipment to help them investigate Russia’s war crimes.
Ukraine received materials for 3D modelling of crime scenes. According to the Embassy of France in Ukraine, this transfer was the official conclusion of the Fighting Impunity mission, which included visits to Ukraine by representatives of the French National Gendarmerie’s Institute of Criminalistics (IRCGN).
It is reported that France has previously donated 2 mobile DNA laboratories, as well as provided support to Ukrainian specialists and contributed to the work of the International Criminal Court. Three teams of investigators and experts joined the investigation of the heinous crimes committed by the Russian occupiers in Irpin, Bucha and Izium. French experts also travelled to Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih to assist in the examinations and provided training for their Ukrainian colleagues.
“The transferred equipment will greatly help prosecutors and experts in documenting the consequences of attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. Russian troops have already destroyed or damaged more than 110,000 such facilities,” said the Prosecutor General.
He added that he is firmly convinced that each such crime will be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators will be fairly punished. Benjamin Rohrig, Chargé d’Affaires of the French Republic in Ukraine, confirmed his readiness to continue his support and work further to bring all those responsible to justice.
