Google Messages Ultra HD image support is rolling out to RCS users

-

In a quiet update, Google Messages is bringing Ultra HD image support for media sharing. This is a welcomed upgrade to the messaging service for RCS users, as it’ll help them to send high-quality images to other users. However, at this moment there are only a handful of RCS users that can make use of this feature due to certain restrictions.

At this time, some testers are noticing that only Pixel 8 series users can access this new feature after the update. These users have confirmed that they can send and receive HD images while messaging on the Google Message RCS platform. This is because their device supports the sending of Ultra HD images; other users can’t access this feature because their device lacks the necessary support.

The folks at TheSpAndroid have been able to spot this new feature after digging into the codes on the new Google Message update. They were also able to confirm that the ability to send and receive Ultra HDR media files came with the Android 14 update. At this point, it seems like only the new Pixel devices (the Pixel 8 series) have access to this ability.

Ultra HDR images sent from the Pixel 8 devices using the Google Messages RCS platform will be displayed as regular JPEG images on other devices. Over the coming weeks, Google might roll out support for sending Ultra HDR media files to other devices running on Android 14. This might happen before Apple brings support for RCS to iMessage, which is to happen sometime next year.

With this feature, Android devices using Google Messages RCS platform will be able to send high-quality images within themselves. Also, Android users will no longer have to worry about the risk of sending low-quality images to iPhones. More details on this Ultra HD support will become available in the coming weeks.
