Google RCS will be making its way to the iPhone in the coming months

-

Last year, after a ton of pressure, Apple finally agreed to adopt Google RCS messaging technology on their devices. This adoption was to take place this year, but for a while now there hasn’t been much about this matter. Now, Google has confirmed the RCS will be coming to the iPhone in the fall of 2024, possibly with the roll-out of iOS 18 to devices.

Once available on iPhone, Android devices will be able to message their iPhone friends more securely. This will also enable messages between the Message by Google app and iMessage to be sent over a data connection. For media sharing, the adoption of RCS messaging by the iPhone will help Android users send HD images to their friends who use Apple devices.

Over the years, Apple has created an unnavigable bridge for messaging between iPhone and Android devices. For secure messaging over an internet connection, most Android and iPhone users rely on third-party messaging services like WhatsApp, Telegram, and others. Taking to their official website, Google announced that “Better messaging for all” is coming to iOS in the fall of 2024.

The WWDC 24 event will bring the preview of iOS 18 to the public. At this event, we might hear a few keynotes on the adoption of Google RCS messaging technology. However, this is a move that Apple isn’t willing to make as this is only coming after a ton of pressure from Google as well as other top bodies ensuring stability in the tech industry.

Once this feature is adopted, Android users can then drop the use of SMS/MSM channels. In place of this, messages sent via RCS to iPhones will be end-to-end encrypted for better security. More details on this will become available in the coming weeks.
