If you have super-fast internet, you might have thought about downloading more than one Android app on your smartphone at the same time. Google appears to be working on adding support for parallel downloads to the Play Store, TheSpAndroid reports.
The site discovered that enabling some settings in Google Play Store v40.0.13 on Android devices allows side-by-side installation, which Google is experimenting with. However, previous reports and screenshots posted on Reddit suggest that this isn’t the first time the company has considered adding parallel downloads to the Play Store.
By default, the function is configured to download two applications at the same time, but you can increase this limit to five by enabling the corresponding option. However, as the site notes, you can’t use it to update multiple apps at the same time.
There is currently no word on when (or if) this feature will be available to the public, nor if Google will enforce the two-app download limit. Google tested the ability to download multiple Android apps about four or five years ago, but the company could have abandoned the feature back then and never released it.
In comparison, Apple is already several steps ahead, as you can download multiple apps on the iPhone. At most, you can update multiple apps at once by clicking the “Update All” button in the App Store.
Separate news was a message from a user on Twitter that the “Google Phone” application began to show WhatsApp call records alongside the usual call records. Mishaal Rahman noted that “third-party calling apps can choose to have calls logged in the system call log” starting with Android 9. Again, this feature is already available on the iPhone.
