Huawei 5nm SoC production line is already being set up by SMIC

-

The Huawei 5nm SoC lineup to be in use on coming devices is already entering its production phase. This will be an upgrade from the 7nm chip that is in use on the Huawei Mate 60 series that hit the launch stage last year. For this coming process, Huawei will rely fully on SMIC as they work to bring this new fabrication process to the brand’s coming flagship devices.

According to the available reports, SMIC is working to build production lines for the fabrication of the coming Kirin chips. These chips are to step up from the 7nm process to a 5nm process, void of any foreign interference. Over the years, the US government has been in the Huawei way as they try to access equipment that is essential for the development of their chips for their devices.

However, the launch of the Mate 60 series last year proved that Huawei has found a way around the US sanctions. The coming Mate and P series devices will go on to use the coming Huawei 5nm SoC, which will be developed by SMIC. The Chinese chip manufacturer is already putting in the work to ensure that this coming Kirin chip sees the light.

To kick off the production of this 5nm fabrication process, SMIC will use sourced equipment at its disposal. This is due to the recent turn of events, preventing SMIC from obtaining new equipment to facilitate the production of 5nm chips. Once available the coming Huawei 5nm SoC chips will be put to use on the P and Mate flagship devices to be launched this year.
