The new Huawei ultrasonic fingerprint sensor patent has been unveiled, showing the next step in the company’s growth. This patent proves that Huawei is preparing for a big switch to using its technology for fingerprint sensors. Years after switching to the use of a fingerprint sensor, Huawei is finally readying its ultrasonic sensor for use on its smartphones.
Only in recent years have we begun seeing the use of ultrasonic sensors on smartphones. Big smartphone brands like Vivo already have their ultrasonic sensor with a large area coverage. This technology is already in use in flagship-level Vivo smartphones that are currently available for purchase today.
Huawei is now preparing to join the league of smartphone brands with their in-house fingerprint sensors. As this patent enters its development stage, Huawei will prepare itself to break free from the reliance on other company’s fingerprint patents. From the patent, we can learn the build of this coming fingerprint sensor technology.
It’ll feature a “stacked common electrode, a piezoelectric layer, and an array of pixel electrode units.” For its operation, this fingerprint sensor will use both transmitting and receiving modes to accurately get the user’s fingerprint. This might ensure better security in comparison with the fingerprint sensor technology that is currently in use on Huawei flagship devices.
There is no information on when this patent will be developed into an actual usable technology. But because this technology is already a patent, we can expect it to move into the development phase soon. Once available for usage, we’ll get to see this Huawei ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in use on the brand’s flagship smartphones.
