The company Gravity Industries announced that on February 28, Dubai will host the world’s first race in jet suits. The Dubai Sports Council, in collaboration with Gravity Industries, is organizing an event that will be a historic moment in aerial sports.
Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed his delight at the event, stressing that it marks a new era of exciting aerial sports around the world. “This race marks the beginning of a new era of exciting air sports around the world and is a true reflection of Dubai’s entrepreneurial spirit as well as the human ability to overcome adversity,” Mansoor said in a statement. “This event also aims to highlight the uniqueness and boundless energy of Dubai, which presents the world with new ideas that combine innovation, adventure and ambition that push the boundaries of human imagination and pave the way for even greater achievements and innovations around the world,” he added.
The announcement was made during a recent ceremony at Burj Park, adjacent to the iconic Burj Khalifa. Key figures at the ceremony included Saeed Harib, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, Richard Browning, Founder and Chief Test Pilot of Gravity Industries, and Samer Al Shammari, Race Director.
The excitement was added by a live demonstration with the participation of three participants in jet suits who flew over the Dubai Fountain near Burj Park. Eight competitors from different countries will take part in the upcoming race, including Ahmed Al-Shehi from the UAE.
As part of the preparation for the event, an agreement was signed between the Dubai Sports Council and the company Gravity Industries on the organization of the “Dubai Jet Suit Race” on February 28. The event coincides with the Dubai International Boat Show, which will allow spectators to witness unique aerial competitions.
The jetsuit races will take place in the stretch between Dubai Harbor and Skydive Dubai, with a designated water area and depth suitable for the sport. Participants will use specially designed suits that protect against drowning and provide additional buoyancy.
