With iOS 16 right around the corner, there’s not much to expect from iOS 15. However, latest, and possibly the last, update of iOS 15 – iOS 15.6 has just arrived. And it includes both a new feature and some fixes. As usual, it was accompanied by an iPad software update called iPadOS 15.6, and the changes are the same for both.
This new feature is the ability to restart, rewind, pause and replay live sports games that are already streaming in the TV app. It’s not something that will benefit everyone, but it can be a very useful upgrade for sports fans.
Apart from that, the iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 updates are mainly about bug fixes. These include fixes for the following:
- Fix for an issue where settings could continue to show that the device’s memory is full even when it isn’t.
- Fixes for braille devices becoming slow or unresponsive when navigating text in Mail.
- Fixes for Safari causing the tab to return to the previous page.
If you are facing any of these issues, then you should get this update as soon as possible.
However, the update usually also includes security fixes. So even if you haven’t encountered aforementioned bugs and don’t care about updating the TV app, we still recommend downloading it as soon as possible to keep your device safe.
The update should be available now for all eligible devices, including anything that can run iOS 15 or iPadOS 15. Specifically, iPhone 6S and later, as well as iPad mini 4 and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5-th generation and newer, as well as all iPad Pro models.
You should be able to find the latest update by going to Settings → General → Software Update (if you’re not prompted to download it automatically). But if you don’t see it, check back later, as it might take a while.
Given that iOS 15.6 arrived about two months after iOS 15.5, it’s possible that this is the last version of iOS 15 we’ll get. iOS 16 is expected about two months later, in September.
Yes, Apple has already announced iOS 16 and launched beta testing of the software, so we know a lot about the upcoming features. It includes customizable lock screens, improved notifications, an Unsend feature for Messages, improved Focus mode, a redesigned Home app, and more.
