Apple’s iPhone 16 series of smartphones, which include the base, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max models, are expected to arrive this fall (probably in September). And fans are waiting for several important additions, both design and hardware. And now we have a certain confirmation of the changes that may appear in the new series of flagships because images of mock-ups of future smartphones have appeared on the Internet.
It was expected that the smartphones could get a dedicated button for quick photo and video capture, while the base model and the Plus version would get the Action Button from last year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. And new mock-up images seem to confirm those leaks.
Insider Sonny Dixon took to his Twitter page to share three images of mock-ups for all four models in the iPhone 16 series. They help visualize some of the changes that will be coming to Apple’s next smartphone line-up, including the redesigned rear camera placement of the base and the Plus models.

Previous leaks have suggested that Apple will equip the base and Plus models with vertically positioned cameras on the back panel, a departure from the diagonal arrangement featured in the previous series. This assumption was confirmed on mock-ups of both devices. There is also thought that the new location will allow them to record spatial video for Apple Vision Pro. In addition, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max look slightly larger in the photo than their younger brothers, and even the Plus version is slightly different in size than the regular one.
The images show that all four models of the iPhone 16 series will be equipped with an Action Button – it is located on the left side of the smartphone. First introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, this button replaces the mute switch and can be reprogrammed to launch other apps or actions.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 series also features a so-called Capture Button, which is said to allow users to quickly switch to the camera and take photos. Previous leaks have suggested that the new button will be located on the right side of the phone, and one of the mock-up images shows it in the same location.
It is worth noting that there is still a long time before the announcement of the iPhone 16 series of smartphones, and by that time Apple will still have time to hold the WWDC 2024 conference. As we previously wrote, it will begin on June 10, and on it, the company will probably present new features that will come in iOS 18 and macOS 15, as well as pay attention to artificial intelligence. It is quite possible that in the busy schedule, there will be some space to share some new details about the upcoming smartphones, even if it is 3-4 months before the release.
Case makers often use mock-ups to make sure their cases fit future phones, so the parts are usually pretty accurate. Interestingly, this is the same insider who recently shared images of transparent iPhone 16 cases.
