Today, November 9, 2023, marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the first Moto G smartphone. This series became a real hit and revolutionized the mobile phone market, offering excellent value for money and a number of innovative features that were previously available only in expensive flagships.
When Motorola released the first generation Moto G, users had only two options: an underpowered mobile device or an old premium smartphone with outdated specifications. The first Moto G was created by Motorola to make premium technology more accessible to everyone: a quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an interesting design with interchangeable back panels. It also features Moto’s favorite gestures, which until now were only available on Motorola’s premium Moto X devices. On this occasion, we have even translated our 10-year-old review of the very first smartphone in the series into Ukrainian, so you can read it, it’s very interesting to know what the bestsellers of that time were about.
In the following years, Motorola continued to release new Moto G models.
In 2014, the second Moto G model was released. It had a 5-inch display with 720p resolution, a 5-megapixel main camera, and a 2-megapixel front camera. The smartphone was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and had 1 GB of RAM.
The introduction of Moto G4 was an important milestone for the series. Motorola’s research at the time showed that consumers prioritize certain features according to the price points of devices in different categories. The study also examined how consumers’ need for the latest mobile technology was growing around the world. The Moto G family has expanded to meet this need by offering powerful devices in a wider price range. In addition, consumers were given the opportunity to use the Moto Maker program, where they could choose the back panel color and front panel color, as well as be able to select engraving and customize a software greeting when the phone boots up. These features allowed consumers to further customize the devices to match their chosen aesthetic style.
Notably, the Moto G4 also set a new standard in the family, becoming the first device in the series to feature a fingerprint sensor and PDAF with laser autofocus, which was previously available to Motorola consumers only on premium devices.
Moto G100 is the tenth generation of the famous family. It was the first mid-range device in Moto’s G-family to feature the Snapdragon 8 series mobile platform, which unlocks 5G connectivity and boasts a tremendous battery capacity. The device also introduced the segment’s leading Ready For platform, which redefines the smartphone experience by enhancing the phone’s external display capabilities without additional accessories.
The latest device, the Moto G84 5G (read our review here), is the first Moto G smartphone to feature Pantone’s 2023 color, Viva Magenta, as well as ultra-premium leatherette. The camera system demonstrates OIS and UltraPixel technologies, providing impeccable clarity and brightness of images in any lighting conditions. In addition, the Moto G84 5G is complemented by a 6.5-inch ultra-wide POLED display with infinite contrast that illuminates each pixel independently for richer blacks and brighter colors, enhancing the overall entertainment experience. The G84 is also equipped with built-in AI features in many areas, such as camera, battery, display, and device performance, which are designed to enhance the user experience.
The series has become successful thanks to its approach to combining quality and affordability. During these ten years, Motorola has always improved its smartphones by listening to user requirements and introducing new technologies. The Moto G series continues to evolve and delight consumers with high-quality and affordable smartphones. And we will delight you with interesting reviews of these devices.
All these years, Motorola has remained a trusted partner for millions of users around the world, offering them reliability and high quality at an affordable price. There is no doubt that the series will continue its success in the future, offering even more innovations and impressive features for users.
