Strangely, it seems like the Netflix app for Windows is preparing to drop off downloads for offline viewing. The available reports on this move go on to state that the streaming platform’s official app on Windows will soon prompt users to download movies on the mobile app. This change will be a result of an update that the Netflix app for Windows might get in the coming weeks.
This change is one that users of the Windows app won’t welcome with arms open wide. Artem Russakovskii, an X user, posted a screenshot of this coming change to his page, sparking lots of reactions from users. Most of these reactions were not in favour of this change that might be coming to the Netflix app of Windows, as it aims to take away offline viewing for users of the platform.
From the screenshot that Artem Russakovskii shared via his X page, we can read that “downloads will no longer be supported” for Windows devices. In place of this, the platform urges users to move over to their mobile devices or television to continue offline viewing. This will be a slap to Netflix’s service offered via the Windows app, as lots of users rely on their Windows devices (PC or laptop) for downloading and watching movies offline.
However, this change that Artem noticed on his Windows device differs from that on a similar notification on another user’s Windows device. Trevor, another X user, notes that the notification on his Netflix for Windows app doesn’t prompt him to switch to a mobile device for offline viewing. So at this point, we aren’t sure what Netflix is cooking, but what we can assure you of is that a change to the Windows app is coming.
This change is coming with “access to live events, compatibility with ad-supported plans and more”. Netflix might only be testing reactions to this change, or it might be a regional change, we aren’t sure which is the case. In the coming weeks, we’ll get to learn more about this change and how it’ll affect users of the platform.
