The MWC exhibition caused a lot of buzz due to announcements from various companies for the coming year. One such prospect is Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which the company confirmed will be unveiled in October.
Qualcomm and other chip makers have begun to shift their focus to a more AI-friendly future. This means that most phones and devices released over the next few years will exponentially increase their ability to manage embedded AI processes.
Qualcomm has done a good job of developing SoCs with powerful NPUs that give us a glimpse of what smartphones and other devices can handle. Of course, they’re not perfect, and phones like the Galaxy S24 Ultra show us that. Currently, AI is inherently limited, as is the hardware that supports it.
According to a new tweet from Snapdragon UK, COO Don McGuire has spoken about when the company will release a pure SoC. According to the video, Qualcomm will soon introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 equipped with Oryon processor and an updated Neural processor. It looks like the SoC will be announced sometime in October.

None of this is groundbreaking, but it appears to be the first time we’ve heard someone from the company refer to the expected Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 by name. It’s also no shock that the company continues to innovate on the NPU front, as this is something that will be crucial for the company in the next few years.
We likely won’t know more details about the 8 Gen 4 until it gets closer to its October launch date. Even then, we won’t see the device until maybe a month or two after that.
