The Google Pixel 8a, a strong contender for a spot among the best mid-range smartphones of 2024, has once again fallen victim to a leak ahead of its expected May launch.
TechDroider has shared what appear to be real images of the Pixel 8a on Twitter – the source is unknown. The images confirm previous leaks that showed the Pixel 8a adopting the rounded design seen in the Pixel 8 series. One notable change in these new images is the Pixel 8a’s matte finish on the back, which could be a welcome departure from the Pixel 7a’s glossy back.
The images also give us a glimpse of the rumoured 6.1-inch display. While much of the commentary on Twitter has focused on the sizable bottom bezel seen here, it’s in line with the previous Pixel A-series design. The biggest buzz this time around is that the Pixel 8a could be the first in its line-up to feature a 120Hz display.
The Pixel 8a could be equipped with Google’s Tensor G3 chipset, which promises a significant performance boost. The phone is also likely to retain the dual 64MP and 13MP cameras that were found in the Pixel 7a.
The year 2024 promises to be transformative for the entire Pixel line. Rumour has it that the price of the Pixel 8a will increase significantly, and the flagship Pixel 9 series could undergo even more changes with an all-new device.
Google is expected to announce the Pixel 8a at the Google I/O conference on May 14.
