Price and market positioning

XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro

At first glance, the price of the MoGo 3 Pro might seem a bit steep: a hefty $965 or €870 without any discounts. But with a current discount (valid at the time of writing), it feels much more reasonable — $720 or €650. Plus, there’s even more potential savings with a promo code from the official website. Sure, for the full price you could easily get a “full-sized” projector with beefier specs. But that would be a stationary device, likely lacking the sleek design. With the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro, a good chunk of what you’re paying for is the portability, stylish looks, and how quickly you can get it up and running. That’s the pricing logic here — fair cost for compact convenience.

Package contents

The long-awaited moment — unboxing. The box is simple but neat, with everything carefully cushioned for protection — a beauty to behold. Inside, you’ll find the projector itself, a remote control, and… the power adapter. But not just any adapter — the right kind of adapter! Sleek, modern, and compact, without that clunky, stiff power cord like the one that came with the XGIMI Elfin Flip. Honestly, it’s a joy! This is exactly how things should be when it comes to portable devices.

The remote is just as neat as the projector itself — slim, lightweight, and feels great in the hand.

This part is a bit of a letdown — the package doesn’t include a micro-HDMI cable. It’s not really about the cost (these typically run around $5–$10), but rather the fact that micro-HDMI cables aren’t exactly common. You’re unlikely to find one at a nearby supermarket, so you’ll probably have to order it online and wait a few days. If the device used a standard HDMI port instead, it wouldn’t be an issue — most people already have those cables lying around. But that’s not the case here.

Features and design

The XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro makes a strong visual impression. From its shape to the color scheme, the design feels well-executed. The curved lines, soft beige tone with a subtle sheen, and balanced proportions all contribute to a cohesive look. There’s little to criticize here from a purely aesthetic perspective. That said, what matters more to me is the industrial design — how the construction is thought through and how it performs in day-to-day use. Is it comfortable to handle? Does the layout feel intuitive and clearly reflect the purpose of the device? These seemingly small details often hold the real value for those who appreciate solid engineering.

Let’s get into the practical side of things. Setting up the projector takes just two simple steps: pull up the top cylinder and rotate it — that’s it. There are no clamps, locks, or additional mechanisms involved. The swivel hinge has a smooth, controlled motion and feels solid enough. Once positioned, the projector holds its angle well during use, without drifting off-axis.

The MoGo 3 Pro is well thought out in terms of balance. The lower barrel, which houses the speakers, is heavier than the upper part, despite its size. This gives the projector a stable base, so it won’t tip over unless you push it (or, you know, your cat decides to get involved). In addition to its built-in stand, the projector can also be mounted on a tripod for added flexibility.

An interesting feature is the multicolor lighting located on the lower part of the top barrel. It creates a nice lighting effect when the projector is in portable speaker mode (yes, the projector can do that) or when used as a nightlight.

Now, a few words about the drawbacks. The main one is the carrying loop. While it looks nice and is comfortable for a small hand, there’s a flaw. If you lift the projector by this loop, it can open up. This seems like an odd oversight, as simply placing the loop just a centimeter lower on the bar would have solved the issue.

Now, let’s talk about the physical ports. It’s a somewhat controversial selection, though maybe I’m being overly critical. On the back, just below the power button, there’s a USB Type-C port for powering the projector. Beneath a rubber cover, there are two more ports: a full-size USB for connecting storage devices like flash drives, and my personal favorite, micro-HDMI. And here’s the question… Why micro-HDMI? You might think it’s for space-saving purposes, but that doesn’t quite hold up. Right next to it is a full-sized USB, which doesn’t take up any less space than a standard HDMI port.

What XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro can do

So, shall we go over the key specs of the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro? You can find the dry numbers in the specifications section, but here I’ll focus more on sharing my impressions of the projector’s capabilities.

Image

The XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro is a highly advanced projector despite its compact size. Its main strength and drawback is the DLP optical matrix. Let me explain — this is a high-end matrix that uses tilting mirrors, just like the ones in professional cinema projectors. I won’t get too technical, so I’ll keep it brief — the matrix is top-notch but fragile, and the projector is portable. Something to think about.

No matter how good the matrix is, it literally fades without proper lighting. The MoGo 3 Pro features a 450-lumen lamp, which is a bit underwhelming for use in a brightly lit room during the day. However, in the dark, the MoGo 3 Pro really shines. The image is bright, sharp, and vibrant, looking great on almost any surface, from a wall to thick curtains.

To address the issue of viewing in bright light, you might want to consider specialized projector screens. These screens are pure white and reflect light more effectively, enhancing the viewing experience even in well-lit environments.

A major advantage of the device is the ability to adjust the projected image. Naturally, you can manually adjust trapezoid correction, sharpness, position, and other projector settings. However, the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro can do all of this automatically as well, and it does so quite accurately. You simply place the projector, aim it at the wall, and press a single button on the remote — the rest is handled by the device.

Another nice feature is the manual image size adjustment. The further the device is from the wall, the larger the projected “screen” becomes. However, you can manually adjust the size through the menu (though it would be more convenient to have a button on the remote for this). These adjustments allow for a perfectly tailored image, no matter where the projector is placed. This level of flexibility, speed, and ease of setup is crucial for a portable projector, and the MoGo 3 Pro definitely excels in this area.

Sound

XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro

We’ve covered the most important aspect — the image quality. However, it’s worth noting that the projector also has built-in speakers. And they’re actually quite good, even impressive. The sound quality is comparable to that of medium-sized portable speakers. For a living room, it’s just right. The audio is more than adequate for watching movies of any genre or enjoying any kind of content.

The projector can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker. Thanks to the two Harman Kardon speakers, the sound is clear and pleasant, and the lighting in speaker mode adds a special ambiance.

Software

The MoGo 3 Pro runs Android TV 11. This means you can easily enjoy media services like YouTube, Netflix, or Prime Video, install various apps, and take advantage of all the Google services that are compatible with this type of device. It also supports voice control, DLNA, and of course, Chromecast, allowing you to stream content directly from your smartphone to the projector.

Use case

Now that we’ve covered most of the pros and cons of the MoGo 3 Pro, it’s easier to determine its primary use case. The projector works well both at home and for on-the-go events. However, in my opinion, the heart of the device is more about “for fun.” For example, you could watch a movie with your family on the comfy couch at home or in the back of your van at night by the river (though you’ll need to think about power supply). Or, you take it with you to a friend’s house and project a music video onto the ceiling or a starry sky using a special optical filter. Maybe when visiting your parents, you’ll start a slideshow of childhood photos right on the wall. To me, this is the true philosophy of the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro.

You can also significantly enhance the portability of the device by purchasing an additional tripod with a built-in battery. This way, you won’t be dependent on the location or availability of power. It’s possible to get this setup as a bundle, along with a convenient carrying case for easy transportation.

Conclusions and competitors

The XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro combines portability, convenience, and aesthetics. Whether you’re showcasing a presentation, watching a movie, or setting a pleasant musical backdrop for a hangout with friends, this projector does it all. However, to truly unlock its full potential, it performs best under certain lighting conditions — in the dark or with a special screen. By creating the right environment for a great picture, you’re sure to fall in love with it!

XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro

It wouldn’t be fair not to mention some of the competitors to the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro. Among portable projectors with a DLP matrix and Full HD resolution, there are several worthy options. For example, the ASUS ZenBeam L2, priced at $650, comes with a case, a built-in battery, and a variety of interfaces. Then there’s the “younger sibling” of XGIMI, the Elfin Flip, which is similar to the MoGo 3 Pro in terms of specs but costs $680. Or the Philips PicoPix MaxTV — its price starts around the MoGo 3 Pro bundle’s cost and can exceed $1000. The design might not be for everyone, but in terms of performance, it’s a beauty: 900 lumens of brightness, plenty of ports, and a built-in battery.
