While sales in other regions soar, Apple China sales are not having a great time as the competition is intense. Right now, the sales of Apple products in China are down by a whopping 24%, which is unlike in other regions. In some regions such as the US, Apple product sales are up by 64% showing impressive growth and market leadership.
A few years ago, Apple China sales were quite impressive following Huawei’s challenges in the smartphone market. At this point, China was one of Apple’s biggest markets, as it saw impressive sales in the region. Well, this period of plenty for Apple only lasted for a while, as big competitors like Huawei were plotting their return to the Chinese smartphone market.
Due to the US sanctions, Huawei, the main competitor to Apple in China, couldn’t access the equipment necessary for its manufacturing process. But after some years of struggling to get material for their production process, Huawei is back in the business. The Chinese tech giant’s return to its home country spelt doom for Apple, affecting its sales in the region.
As Huawei China sales surge, Apple China sales dwindle since more people are picking Huawei products over Apple products. Most Huawei products are priced similarly to their Apple counterparts, so this isn’t a battle over which is cheaper. This is a battle of which product better serves the Chinese people, and Apple is losing this tussle.
At this moment, Apple’s market share in China is down 19% while Huawei’s market share is up 16.5%. Right now, Huawei is in second place in the Chinese smartphone market, trailing Vivo. This turn of events is not in favour of Apple and might affect the brand’s revenue in the coming months.
