TCL announced a new 115-inch mini-LED TV at CES 2024. The QM891 is loaded with features, including a QLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate (144Hz with VRR), AMD FreeSync Premium, an anti-glare screen coating, a built-in 6.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos sound system with up-firing speakers, and an ATSC 3.0 tuner for broadcasts.
It also boasts 20,000 individual dimming zones and 5,000 nits of brightness, a TCL AIPQ ultra-processor and support for Quantum Dot technology. TCL representatives say the TV covers 98% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Although the QM891G is a brand new model, it is likely a variant of the TCL X11G Max QD, a $13,000 115-inch TV only available in the Chinese market.
The manufacturer also announced several more devices at CES. The 75″ to 98″ QM8 QD Mini LED TVs also feature 5000 nits peak brightness, 120Hz QLED panels (144Hz VRR) and anti-glare coating, although the number of local brightness control zones has been reduced to 5000. They include a built-in 2.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos sound system, Dolby Vision IQ HDR and ATSC 3.0 tuner.
Next in the product line is the QM7 series. These 55″ to 98″ TVs have 1,500 local dimming zones, peak brightness of up to 2,400 nits, and Game Accelerator 240. There’s also HDR Ultra with Dolby Vision IQ and a 2.1-channel speaker system with a built-in subwoofer.
Finally, the regular (non-Mini-LED) QLED Q6 and Q6 Pro series are introduced. Available in sizes from 43″ to 98″, the Q6 series TVs feature LED backlighting that is 28% brighter than last year’s models, and the 85″ and 98″ versions feature a 120Hz display panel. Q6 Pro models have a diagonal of 55″-85″ and are equipped with local brightness control. Buyers also get voice control, a backlit remote control, and feet with adjustable width on larger models.
In addition to TVs, the manufacturer also announced new tablets – this year we saw NXTPAPER 14 Pro and Tab 10 NXTPAPER 5G. Both tablets have NXTPAPER 3.0 displays with a new polarizing filter and updated brightness control for more comfortable reading and less eye strain.
NXTPAPER 14 Pro has a 14-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2880×1800, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 700 nits. The screen has an aspect ratio of 16:10, and TCL has added a special NXTPAPER button that allows you to quickly switch between three modes – monochrome, reduced colour and full colour. The rear panel houses a 50-megapixel main camera and an LED flash. The model runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 8020 paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of permanent storage and has a 12,000 mAh battery.
The second model, the Tab 10 NXTPAPER 5G, has a 10.4-inch LCD with a resolution of 2560×1440 and a brightness of 700 nits. It is equipped with an octa-core chipset with 5G support, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of permanent storage. The Tab 10 NXTPAPER 5G runs Android 14 and is powered by a 6,000 mAh battery.
