Samsung Galaxy Fit e fitness tracker review

We meet again, letter E. By now it’s obvious that Samsung uses the letter to distinguish the “lighter” products. We have Samsung Galaxy S10e smartphone, Galaxy Tab S5e tablet and now wearables. Let’s take a look at the affordable Samsung Galaxy Fit e fitness tracker.

Samsung Galaxy Fit features

Samsung Galaxy Fit e fitness bracelet has a typical feature set for this class of devices. It displays the current time and date, counts steps and distance travelled, calories burned, measures heart rate using the built-in sensor, and tracks user sleep.

On the tracker you can also see the current weather. Of course, it can perform the role of an alarm clock and wake you up with vibration, as well as send notifications from a smartphone. The latter also includes incoming calls with SMS messages.

The tracker itself works as advertised, but there are certain issues, which I will discuss below. Looking ahead, I can only note that in my opinion, Samsung Galaxy Fit e should be purchased first of all by owners of Samsung devices. But let’s start from the beginning.

What’s in the box

The tracker is sold in a small box with a concise design. Inside there is the module itself, already with the strap, as well as the charging cradle. There should also be some kind of a manual.

The charger is proprietary. It looks like a miniature dock with a pair of contacts.

A small but pleasant feature is that you do not need to remove Galaxy Fit e module from the strap. Trifle, but convenient.

Design, materials, element’s configuration and ergonomics

Externally, the tracker looks simple and similar to any other similar product. Narrow, small size, with a completely black front panel. In short, this description fits 90% of fitness trackers, as you can imagine. Nothing extraordinary, but it looks good.

The capsule with the strap is white in my case. In a week and a half, it did not turn gray, but what will happen in the future is difficult to say. The front panel is covered with a flat plastic, with a tiny bend around the edges, and the screen itself looks quite small.

On the back there is a large platform with a heart rate monitor, two contacts for charging and markings. On the edges are the grooves made for mounting a fitness tracker in the charging station.

The module is not certified for any IP standard, but the manufacturer promises ISO 22810: 2010 and 50 meters of water protection. In addition, we have US military standard MIL-STD-810G.

In the strap the capsule is held very securely. There’s no chance the module will get loose.

The strap is neat, soft and pleasant to the touch. The fastener unusual; the part with holes will supposedly be under the part with a buckle (it is plastic). It’s visually pleasing and reliable. I like it.

The bracelet is very light – 15 g with a strap, and it’s barely noticeable. Clothes with long sleeves does not cling, the front part is not strongly protruding.

But scratches cannot be avoided. With careful use, small, barely noticeable scratches appear no matter what. It’s not critical, but what will happen in a couple of months is not hard to guess.

Samsung Galaxy Fit is available for purchase in three colors – black, white and yellow.

Samsung Galaxy Fit e Display

Samsung Galaxy Fit e fitness tracker is equipped with a small 0.74″ diagonal display with a resolution of 128 × 64 pixels. It is made using PMOLED technology and is monochrome.

This is a simple pixel screen that can display the minimum amount of information. The brightness of the screen in the room is enough, but in the bright sun there are certain difficulties with readability. There is no auto brightness control, but you can lower its level through the companion application, I’ll tell you about it below.

It is also worth clarifying that this is not a touch screen. To activate the display, you must make a lift gesture, but that does not always work. Or double tap on the body, it works more reliably.

Samsung Galaxy Fit e battery life

Inside is a small 70 mAh battery. The company claims that it will last up to 7 days of use. I will not deny this in principle, because in theory it’s possible. If you disable most of the functions.

But in practice, the bracelet is enough for 4 days: removing it from the charge on Monday morning, I returned it later on Thursday in the evening. During these 4 days I received a lot of notifications from applications, my pulse was constantly measured and so on. If you do not track the pulse around the clock, Fit e will last much longer.

Now about charging speed. It charges from the minimum (5-7%) to 100% in about an hour and a half.

Interface and Management

The control is not tied to touches or swipes on the display, but to tapping on the case. The accelerometer as a whole recognizes them, although sometimes you have to do an extra “knock” because it didn’t work for the first time.

So, knock! The first screen serves as a watch face, us usual. Depending on the option chosen, not only time but also other information may be displayed here. The order of subsequent screens can be changed and removed. Behind the dial is the number of steps taken, calories burned, the last dream, weather, calendar and pulse.

The bracelet notifies about calls by showing the number and name of the caller. You can not reset the call, just remove it from the tracker so that it does not vibrate. But notifications are chopped,, you can only see the application icon and, if lucky, the name and surname of the person who wrote it.

In general, everything here is at a minimum. Even simpler than in Mi Band 3. So, if you want not just a tracker on your hand, but a more functional device, it is better to pay attention to Mi Band.

Galaxy Wearable and the Company

Another reason Samsung Galaxy Fit e won’t suit everyone is the app. No, not an app – the apps. If you have a new Samsung smartphone, expect perfect compatibility, since you do not need to download anything. Just get the tracker and if it is charged, you can quickly connect it and configure it in the Galaxy Wearable application. The process is very simple. I set up and used the tracker together with Samsung Galaxy A40.

But, if you try to use it with a smartphone of another brand, then you need to download a whole pack of applications and plug-ins. These are: Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health, Samsung Accessory Service and finally Galaxy Fit Plugin. The horror… It’s good that One UI has all of them, except for the lightweight Fit Plugin.

Android:

iOS:

But let’s go directly to Galaxy Wearable. The first block shows the battery charge level, the second redirects to the Samsung Health app. It contains all the information on activity: steps, workouts, sleep, weight, pulse.

There is also a huge amount of exercises.

There’s a large-scale hub with everything you need and more. I think by the number of screenshots in the gallery below and above, you understand the entire volume of this application.

We return to Wearable and see the alarm settings. Next is the weather settings, which it also pulls up from a connected smartphone. Then comes the search for the bracelet – the usual vibration and notifications. There you can choose to receive notifications with the necessary application or leave everything on. And also choose whether to duplicate notifications if the smartphone screen is on, and whether to activate the tracker screen if a notification has arrived.

Below is the setting of the screens: sorting, on/off. The pulse will be measured continuously, if the widget is on the screen or if a certain watch face is selected where this information can be showed. Next – set the vibration and the inclusion of “Do not disturb” – forever or for a certain period of time. “Screen dimming” – you can lower the display brightness either by default or for a certain period of time. You can, for example, set it from evening to morning. And you can choose how to activate the screen (knocking or raising the wrist).

Below are a few uninteresting items, such as device information and software updates. By the way, at the first pairing one update arrived right away. It was all in the first tab, while the second one includes watch faces.

Verdict

It’s hard to judge Samsung Galaxy Fit e. On the one hand, it’s a good bonus to a Samsung smartphone. A neat addition to the ecosystem. But if you don’t have a Samsung device or look for more features, then better try Xiaomi Mi Band 3.

Samsung Galaxy Fit e

Samsung Galaxy Fit e just doesn’t have enough unique features. The battery is mediocre and you can’t do anything with the notifications.
