The International Football Federation (FIFA) continues to cooperate with Russia – the aggressor country, despite the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and not only that – it sold the country the rights to broadcast matches of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, despite the fact that the full scale war continues for more than 6 months.
Propaganda channels of the Russian Federation paid $40 million for the opportunity to broadcast the tournament. For this, each of the three channels – VDTRK, First Channel and Match TV – paid FIFA $13 million. Another million dollars went to the mediator in these negotiations – Telesport.
To be noted that the Russian national team will not participate in the World Cup in Qatar. On February 28, FIFA removed Russian teams from all the official tournaments. The Russian national team was awarded a technical defeat (0:3) in the semi-finals of the qualifying matches for the World Cup 2022 against Poland.
To be reminded that earlier FIFA changed the start date of the World Cup 2022 after the request of the hosts of the tournament – Qatar – to play in the opening match. Thus, in the first match of the World Cup on November 20, Qatar and Ecuador will meet. The final of the World Cup 2022 will take place on December 18.
Unfortunately, the Ukrainian national team also can’t be a part of World Cup 2022. Ukrainians lost to Wales in the play-off final of the European qualification. The World Cup 2022 will be the first in the history of football to be held not in the summer, but in the winter. This is due to the weather conditions in the host country, where the air temperature in June-July reaches over 40°C.
