Although Motorola is gradually improving its update policy and is already promising up to 5 years of Android support for some models, the list of devices with only three major OS updates is still quite impressive. Unfortunately, it even includes the new Edge series models and premium foldable Razr smartphones. The list of Motorola smartphones with three generations of major Android updates has been published. It’s rather disappointing to see new Edge models, such as the Edge 60 and Edge 70, on this list, against the backdrop of competitors offering up to 6 years of Android updates even for mid-range smartphones. At least the premium foldable Razr could have received longer software support.
At the same time, Motorola is showing positive dynamics. Last year, the company introduced the Edge 50 Neo with the promise of 5 Android updates, and later the Moto G75, ThinkPhone 25, and Edge 60 Neo received similar support.
In addition, earlier this year, Motorola announced up to 7 major Android updates for the Motorola Signature smartphone, effectively catching up with Google and Samsung. This is the right move, which will only have real value if it is scaled to more models. The company is also accelerating the rollout of new versions of the OS – in particular, Android 16 is already rolling out to compatible devices much faster than before.
