Today, we’re reviewing the Motorola Moto G24, which comes with a sizable battery and offers commendable performance. It provides an excellent balance of price and quality.
Motorola has always been able to impress with its devices catering to various tastes and budgets. I already have some experience testing smartphones from this company. Of course, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra stands out the most, impressing with its innovative solutions. Overall, Motorola smartphones are quite interesting and popular among users.
In today’s fast-paced world, where technology is constantly evolving, finding a smartphone that perfectly combines performance, style, and durability can be challenging. Motorola recently introduced its latest addition to the affordable lineup in Ukraine – the Moto G24. It’s an entry-level smartphone, but it offers a good balance of features and affordability, which can make it a compelling choice for consumers who need a smartphone without breaking the bank. After spending some time with the device, I want to share my thoughts on whether it’s worth considering for purchase.

What is interesting about Motorola Moto G24 and how much does it cost
It’s important to understand that the Motorola Moto G24 is a budget smartphone, but it’s actually a quite decent mobile device that will be a worthy competitor in this price segment.
Moreover, the Motorola smartphone features a 6.5-inch HD+ display (1612×720 pixels) with a 90Hz refresh rate. While it’s not OLED with high resolution, it’s quite decent in quality.
The Moto G24 runs on the efficient MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, with graphics handled by the Mali G52 MP2 GPU, combined with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card.
Now a few words about the price. As I mentioned earlier, the Motorola Moto G24 falls into the category of budget smartphones, so the price reflects that. Therefore, the Moto G24 can be purchased in Ukrainian electronics stores for a recommended price starting from $120. This is a very favorable offer considering the decent functional capabilities of the smartphone.

The package is quite decent, considering that we are dealing with a budget smartphone from the Moto G series. In addition to the smartphone itself in a stylish branded box, you will find a charger and cable, a silicone case, a SIM card removal tool, and various paper documentation.
Almost everything you need for a modern smartphone. Yes, the silicone case isn’t particularly high quality, but it will suffice for a while. I wouldn’t say it’s a budget smartphone package, which does credit to Motorola.

Interesting color and standard design
Here’s how I would briefly characterize the color and appearance of the Moto G24. It’s a typical budget smartphone from the Moto G series.
The Moto G24 features a fully plastic body, except for the glass on the front panel. The smartphone has a classic shape with a small punch-hole cutout for the front camera right in the center at the top. The plastic used is of decent quality.
The smartphone is somewhat bulky, elongated, but it fits quite well in the hand. I received the Moto G24 in the Pink Lavender color. Although, to be honest, it’s more of a pink hue than lavender.
Although the color is quite attractive, especially for schoolgirls, it’s quite stylish and interesting. The matte finish of the casing effectively repels fingerprints and smudges.
I liked that the camera array is integrated into the rear panel rather than being a separate module, as seen in most other devices. This makes the rear panel look quite organic, like a single unit.
The camera module is almost flush with the surface, so you can place the smartphone on a flat surface without worrying that it will wobble. In Motorola’s style, they placed the company logo right in the center of the rear panel.
The gently curved back panel of the phone makes it quite comfortable to hold. It features flat edges with rounded corners, made of polycarbonate.
It’s worth noting that the Moto G24 is quite large in size – 163.49×74.53×7.99 mm, but it weighs only 181 g. Thanks to its ergonomic design and proper weight distribution, it’s quite comfortable to use, even if you have small hands.
Although the smartphone only received an IP52 certification, it can protect itself from dust and raindrops. This is quite decent for a budget device.
The impression of the design is mixed. It seems simple and budget-friendly, yet thanks to the interesting color, it looks quite attractive.

Ports and connectors
The power and volume buttons are located on the right side, they are pleasant to the touch, which facilitates easy access and convenient operation.
The fingerprint scanner is integrated into the power button. It’s an interesting solution, to be honest. Though it’s important to understand that we’re dealing with a budget device. However, I have no complaints about the fingerprint scanner. It has always worked effectively and is convenient to use.
The SIM card slot on the left side accommodates two nanoSIM cards and a memory card with a capacity of up to 1 TB.
Many users will be pleased to find a 3.5-millimeter audio jack on the top edge, allowing for the connection of wired headphones.
At the bottom, developers have placed a speaker grille, a USB Type-C port for charging and connecting to a computer, and a microphone for calls.
In the center at the top, there is a fairly large selfie camera. The display itself has a fairly wide chin and narrow side bezels.
Motorola has added Panda Glass protection to the front panel of the smartphone to enhance its durability.

Motorola Moto G24 display and sound
The Moto G24 features a 6.56-inch HD+ IPS display with a resolution of 1612×720 and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The screen has a touch sampling rate of 120 Hz, a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 563 nits.
It looks quite good, with vibrant colors, decent contrast ratio, and a fairly good overall level of saturation. Fonts and icons are also clear and easy to read.
The screen brightness is sufficient for indoor use, but it may not be enough for comfortable outdoor use under direct sunlight. However, it’s suitable for regular media consumption. In fact, it’s Widevine L1 certified.
Even though it’s still an IPS panel, you can feel it right from the start. At times, I found the brightness lacking, especially in low-light conditions. Perhaps I’m a bit spoiled because I’m more accustomed to OLED displays, but it’s worth noting. So, be prepared for that.
Nevertheless, having the 90Hz refresh rate support adds its own perks, especially when browsing through social media. The 90Hz enhances the user experience, making the display smoother. For most modern smartphones, this has become a common feature.
Motorola also provides you with the option to adjust the color tone, offering four different modes that allow you to change it from natural to saturated. This means you can fine-tune the smartphone more precisely to suit your needs.
The smartphone is equipped with stereo speakers featuring the “Dolby Atmos” logo, positioned at the top. Surprisingly, they sound quite loud, with clear high frequencies and vocals, providing excellent audio experiences that I didn’t expect from a budget smartphone. Although the Moto G24 does lack bass, it’s not a significant issue considering the overall quality of the speakers is great.

Motorola Moto G24 performance
The Moto G24 runs on the MediaTek Helio G85 processor paired with 4GB of LPDR4x RAM. Many readers might argue that 4GB of RAM is insufficient even for budget smartphones in 2024. However, with the RAM Boost technology, you can add up to 8GB of additional RAM from storage, ensuring higher performance. The smartphone has 128GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card.
During my two weeks of using the Moto G24, I experienced occasional interface delays where the software seemed to hang when opening apps. However, this is a common issue with any budget smartphone. The MediaTek processor in the Moto G24 also falls into the budget segment, contributing to these occasional delays.
Regularly clearing the RAM can indeed help maintain smoother performance on the Moto G24. While apps and software generally run quite stably, periodic RAM clearing can prevent any potential glitches.
If you enjoy playing Call of Duty or Battlegrounds Mobile, you’ll have to play on low graphics settings. Keep in mind that this isn’t the smartphone for supporting complex video games. Simple ones like Candy Crush, Subway Surfers, and others run without issues.

Software: pure Android with Moto features
The Motorola Moto G24 comes to the market with the latest version of Android 14 and a warranty for one major update and three years of security patches, which is a pleasant offer. It’s also reassuring that the environment is a traditional, more or less clean Android with a few programs directly from Motorola. In other words, Motorola is increasingly focusing on its own My UX interface.
I prefer the interface of Motorola smartphones. Here, aesthetics intersect with minimalism. The company has managed not only to preserve but also to enhance the interesting Moto features. Among them are the traditionally popular gestures, with which you can, for example, activate the flashlight or flip through photos. Android offers extensive customization options, allowing users to personalize their devices with various wallpapers, themes, and launch panels.
Yes, there are a few additions from the hardware manufacturer, but nothing intrusive or confusing. On the contrary, a greater number of useful options and extensive customization capabilities enhance the user interaction. And most importantly, it features a “clean” operating system Android 14, which means the smartphone operates smoothly. Although, when updates occur in the background, you may experience some delays or annoying freezes. The issue here lies with the budget processor rather than the performance of the smartphone’s software.
You’ll appreciate the interface of the Moto G series smartphones. The system itself appears to be of high quality and well-thought-out, although it is a somewhat limited alternative for more complex setups. There are no annoying apps or unnecessary features that overflow smartphones from competitors. And it’s precisely the simplicity and smoothness that are the main advantages of the Moto G24. After all, let’s not forget that a smartphone should, first and foremost, function well and, secondly, look good.

Battery life
The new Motorola release features a 5000 mAh battery, which is quite decent for a budget device. The Moto G24 will be a reliable companion for those who don’t like to charge their smartphone too often. With a powerful battery, you’ll be able to listen to music, engage in video chats, and watch series for much longer periods.
After two weeks of use, the smartphone pleasantly surprised with its battery life. Even with intensive usage, you still get more than a day, so that’s a definite plus. Sometimes it seemed like the smartphone could last a whole week with more economical usage.
The fast TurboPower charging technology allows you to get hours of usage in just a few minutes of charging. With the help of the 33W wired charging, you can replenish the battery from 10% to 75% in 55 minutes, which is a very commendable performance considering the large battery capacity and the device’s price. There’s also optimized charging, which should extend the overall battery lifespan.

Cameras
Cameras are not the strongest aspect of Motorola’s budget smartphones. The same can be said for the Moto G24. However, this aspect needs to be adjusted for the price.
As for the cameras, the hero of the review features a dual main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 50-megapixel main sensor using Quad Pixel technology and optical stabilization. There’s also a 2-megapixel macro lens with an f/2.4 aperture. The 8-megapixel front camera with an f/2 aperture allows for fairly decent selfies.
The main sensors produce quite good images. In favorable lighting conditions, the 50-megapixel camera captures shots of decent quality, delivering clear, vibrant, and high-quality images with natural colors and good dynamic range. The 2-megapixel module should perform adequately if used in well-lit environments.
However, in certain scenarios, the dynamic range leaves something to be desired. Nevertheless, the main camera impresses with its fast focusing capabilities, providing clear and effective shooting of subjects.
When it comes to shooting indoors or in low light conditions, the Moto G24 delivers results typical of a budget smartphone. The main lens has issues with autofocus, resulting in slightly blurry images, and even with the night mode activated, noticeable noise remains a problem. The effectiveness of the macro sensor, at best, is average because it lacks the clarity and detail expected for close-up shots.
At night, the camera sensor captures light, allowing for generally decent shots. However, when it comes to fine details, they are lacking. Autofocus also becomes an issue in night mode, sometimes resulting in blurry photos. However, it’s important to be realistic – in this price range, it’s unlikely to find a product without any compromises.
On the other hand, selfies taken with the front camera have a slight smoothing effect and warm skin tones, adding a touch of charm to your self-portraits. In portrait shots, skin tones are softened, and colors appear slightly more saturated.
The same applies to selfies taken with the 8-megapixel front camera. In low-light conditions, the images appear less attractive. Nevertheless, you can confidently post them on social media, but bear in mind the budget nature of the device.
A few words about video recording on the Moto G24. The smartphone can only record video in a single Full HD mode at 30 frames per second.
The video quality is quite good during the day. There’s a lot of detail, good quality, and colors, but at night, noise becomes visible, and the quality sharply decreases. However, the video is remarkably stable.

Conclusions
I really haven’t dealt with budget smartphones for a long time; I’ve mostly been testing flagship or near-flagship devices. That’s why I wanted to experience this.
It’s pleasantly surprising to see that mobile phone manufacturers are paying a lot of attention to design, interface, and even screens in the budget segment. These are no longer sluggish smartphones where you can’t open multiple apps simultaneously, where the screen is dim, and the body is made of cheap plastic. The budget segment has indeed made a huge leap forward, and that’s really cool.
I liked the bright pink-colored body and how it feels in hand. While among flagships, there’s currently a trend to somehow reduce the size, make devices more attractive, in the budget segment, it seems like everyone has huge hands and wants a large screen.
The Motorola Moto G24 is a good budget smartphone that truly delivers value for money. It has an attractive design, quite decent cameras for this category of mobile devices, good battery life, and sufficient performance. Although the screen has a 90Hz refresh rate, it’s not as bright as one would like.
If you’re looking for a budget smartphone that will serve you faithfully but are willing to sacrifice some performance and don’t necessarily need top-notch photo and video quality, then the Moto G24 is indeed a worthy choice.
