After the wild success of Stray, an adventure game (Little Kitty, Big City) about a stray cat who finds himself in a city populated by robots and machines and tries to get back to his family, the world is practically begging for another big cat game. Well, the pleas were heard. Little Kitty’s cosy cat simulator, Big City launches on May 9 and will be available on various platforms, including Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and PC via Steam.

The game will cost $25. You can pre-order now, with Switch owners getting a 10% discount.

A trailer for the game was shown at the latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase event. And he looks really cute. This is a third-person adventure game where the player takes on the role of a black pet cat who is lost in a large Japanese city. The cat needs to get home, but on the way he can do typical cat activities – for example, catch birds, jump into boxes, steal food, play with his tail or get into trouble. There is also an opportunity to communicate with other animals in the city and try on different hats. This is a cozy game, so don’t expect any bloodthirsty cyberpunk thugs to appear here.

The grayscale visuals are charming, and the so-called “mini-open world” is filled with activities for the cat to take part in, people the cat can piss off, or sun-warmed rooftops where the cat can take a nice nap.

It’s unlikely that humans will be able to fully understand what goes on in the minds of our beloved kitties (they are aliens, after all), but this game will at least allow us to step into their shoes/paws.

This is the debut release from American indie developer Double Dagger Studio. The company was founded by game design veteran Matt T. Wood, who spent nearly two decades honing his skills at Valve. He’s worked on several games that seem like the exact opposite of cat SIMs, like Left 4 Dead, Portal 2, and CS:GO. Despite this summary, Little Kitty, Big City lacks combat and has been compared to classic stories such as Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz.
