The virtual AI character Tilly Norwood appears to be set to play a key role in a feature-length film. Since the available information about this project is currently extremely vague, it’s definitely too early to get excited or hope for a quick release.
This digital entity, created by Particle6 Productions, periodically appears in various advertising campaigns and performances. However, according to a report in Variety, she is now set to lead the cast of an upcoming film titled Misaligned. Production will be handled by Particle6 Productions, the same company that previously introduced the world to this virtual actress, whose appearance teeters on the edge of the “uncanny valley” effect.

The creators describe the upcoming film as a coming-of-age story intertwined with the existential chaos of the world of artificial intelligence. The action will unfold in the so-called “Tilly Universe,” where the main character will try to acquire human traits while simultaneously encountering a charming robot con artist from the dark web. Elin van der Velden, head of Particle6 Productions, assures us that the film will be a comedy, full of chaos and self-deprecating humor, which is entirely in keeping with Tilly Norwood’s familiar persona.

For the studio, this will be its first attempt at producing a feature-length film. Until now, Particle6 Productions has focused primarily on producing short commercials using artificial intelligence, which have typically been of rather questionable artistic quality.

Despite the lack of deep expertise in the film industry, it’s hard not to notice the enormous difference between creating a 15-second promotional video for perfume on social media and a full-fledged film project. Although the company offers film studios services for generating digital landscapes and special effects, the true success of this venture remains to be seen. They recently released a music video featuring Tilly Norwood, which evoked a persistent feeling of being inside a nightmare.
The team has not yet announced the involvement of real film industry professionals. However, the developers have hinted at a hybrid filming process in which traditional cinematographers will work side by side with AI specialists. At this point, it is not even clear whether a finished screenplay for this film exists.
Announcements like this raise serious skepticism about whether the film will ever see the light of day, and this has nothing to do with any bias against automation technologies. It is Tilly Norwood herself who raises questions, as this artificially created persona has always seemed more like a tool for provocation and gathering angry comments than a serious attempt to integrate AI into cinema.
When this digital actress was first presented during a promotional event at the Zurich Film Festival, it sparked considerable alarm among Hollywood insiders. In response to these concerns, Particle6 Productions released a series of short videos with captions that essentially mocked the community’s anxieties.
There are serious doubts that Particle6 Productions actually plans to develop Tilly Norwood in any direction other than making sensational statements to get press coverage. After all, with their latest publicity stunt, they certainly succeeded in doing just that. Be that as it may, all that remains is to see whether the Misaligned project will turn into an actual film.
