Apple, according to sources, plans to fix the bugs and expand the capabilities of Apple Intelligence with the release of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 this year. It seems that the company’s AI updates will not be limited to a more functional version of Siri voice assistant. According to Bloomberg, this year’s software updates will also include new AI-powered photo editing tools that will allow users to change the background and framing of images, among other things.

Currently, in the Photos app on various Apple operating systems, you can adjust parameters such as saturation and contrast, apply filters, crop photos, or use AI to remove objects using the Clean Up tool. After the new updates are implemented, Clean Up is expected to become one of several tools within Apple Intelligence Tools. In addition to Clean Up, users will have access to Extend to extend the background of an image using generative AI, Enhance to automatically improve lighting and image quality, and Reframe to change the perspective of a photo after taking it, primarily for Apple’s spatial photos.
If these features are implemented, Apple’s photo editing tools will come closer to the capabilities of competitors such as Google and Samsung, although both companies are still ahead of Apple in their readiness to create fully generated images. Google’s Magic Editor feature, introduced in 2023, is still the leader in terms of the freedom it gives users to radically edit and enhance photos.

In addition to the new photo tools, Apple will also reportedly introduce a new version of Siri based on Google’s Gemini models, a standalone Siri app, and AI search in its apps. The company is expected to unveil many of these features during its keynote presentation at WWDC on June 8.
