Following the release of the super-powerful M5 Max, the first test results of the new Apple MacBook Neo laptop have been posted online. The published data shows that the performance of the device’s CPU is almost equal to that of the Apple iPhone 16 Pro. According to Apple’s official specifications, MacBook Neo is powered by the A18 Pro chip. This 6-core processor is also used in the iPhone 16 Pro.

However, the laptop version of the processor has a slightly modified graphics configuration. While the iPhone 16 Pro is equipped with 6 graphics cores, the MacBook Neo has 5. At the same time, the number of CPU cores in both devices is the same and amounts to 6. In the Geekbench test, the MacBook Neo scored 3461 points in single core mode, 8668 points in multi-core mode, and 31286 points in the Metal graphics test. For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro scored 3445 points in single core, 8624 points in multi core, and 32,575 points in Metal.
These results actually put both devices on the same level in terms of CPU performance, which seems logical given the use of the same chip architecture. The slight difference in the Metal graphics test is likely due to the fact that the MacBook Neo has 1 less GPU core.

The results also allow us to assess the place of the new laptop among other Apple computers. For example, an Apple MacBook Air with an M1 processor in the same test scores 2346 points in single core and 8342 in multi-core. This means that the MacBook Neo demonstrates significantly higher performance in single-threaded tasks and only slightly exceeds the M1 in multi-threaded scenarios.
At the same time, the Apple MacBook Air with the M4 chip is in a completely different performance category. Its results are 3,696 points in single core and 14,730 in multi-core, which is significantly ahead of the MacBook Neo in tasks that actively use multiple processor cores.

The new laptop is also inferior to some of the company’s other devices. For example, the Apple iPad Air with the M3 chip gets 11678 points in the Geekbench multicore test. At the same time, the Neo still outperforms more basic models, including the 11th-generation Apple iPad, which scores 6036 points in the multi-core test.
