Xiaomi has officially announced its entry into the network storage segment by launching a device called Xiaomi Smart Storage on the Chinese market. Rumors about this device had been circulating throughout last year, so its release was a logical step in the development and expansion of the company’s ecosystem of home and consumer electronics.
However, for the launch, Xiaomi has opted for a crowdfunding format instead of a traditional retail release. A special crowdfunding campaign will run from July 1 to July 8, and mass production of the device will begin only if the organizers manage to raise the targeted amount.

At this stage, Xiaomi is refraining from releasing a comprehensive list of technical specifications, but has already confirmed that buyers will be offered three different configurations of the device, each based on a design with two storage bays.

The base model, designed for beginners, comes with a total storage capacity of 4 TB, consisting of two 2-TB drives. During the crowdfunding phase, it will cost $338, while the projected retail price after the official launch is expected to be approximately $514.
The advanced model offers double the capacity at 8 TB, consisting of two 4-TB drives. For crowdfunding participants, this option will cost $426, while the standard retail price will be set at nearly $661. The most powerful professional version, with a total storage capacity of 16 TB – featuring two 8-TB drives – is priced at $690 for pre-orders, compared to a future retail price of $1,028.

The use of a dual-slot architecture in all three models demonstrates the device’s versatility. It can be successfully used by both regular home users to create local media libraries and small business owners who need a standalone system for backing up work files. The financial incentives offered during the fundraising campaign make purchasing the Xiaomi Smart Storage a very profitable investment for those who support the project in its early stages.
The manufacturer promises to reveal the full specifications, software tools, software features, and connection interface details closer to the start of the fundraising campaign. Xiaomi has not yet provided any information on whether the new product is planned for release in international markets outside of China.
