Adobe has announced the start of public testing of Firefly AI Assistant, a new intelligent assistant that marks a shift from tools that execute individual commands to agent systems that can independently manage complex workflows.

According to Axios, the partnership with Anthropic is a key step in this strategy. A lightweight version of the Firefly assistant will be integrated directly into the Claude chatbot. This will allow users to conceptualize projects in Claude and immediately start executing them using Adobe tools without switching between applications.

For Claude, this is the first large-scale integration of creative tools of this level, which extends the platform’s capabilities beyond programming and corporate tasks.

The Firefly AI Assistant’s agent-based approach allows the system to interpret requests in natural language, break them down into sequential steps, and independently select the necessary tools for implementation. The assistant can work with all key Creative Cloud products, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Lightroom, and Express.

Unlike conventional generative AI, which only creates content when prompted, Adobe’s agent AI is focused on performing multi-step operations. Users can instruct the assistant to batch edit images, prepare product photos, create layouts, or adapt content for social media. At the same time, humans retain full control: creators can intervene at any stage, clarify details, and accept or reject AI suggestions.

Adobe is also expanding support for third-party models in its applications. Apart from Anthropic, the company cooperates with Google Cloud, Microsoft, and OpenAI, integrating their developments into its own ecosystem through the new CX Enterprise platform. This system allows developers to integrate Adobe capabilities directly into third-party interfaces used by marketing and creative teams on a daily basis.

David Wadhwani, President of Adobe’s Digital Media Division, noted that this move reflects a fundamental paradigm shift in creative work. According to him, in the era of agency creativity, the user becomes the creative director, and the assistant takes over the orchestration and execution of technical tasks.

The technological upgrade is taking place amid a slowdown in the company’s revenue growth. In fiscal 2025, Adobe’s revenue amounted to $23.77 billion, and the company forecasts $26 billion for 2026. The introduction of agent systems is a strategic response to market pressure and the development of competitive AI tools that are becoming more and more affordable.
