Microsoft Edge has reached a record high share of the PC browser market

-

According to StatCounter, Microsoft Edge reached a record-high share of the desktop browser market and came in second place. The service does not explain why Safari’s market share fell by 4.34% between November and December, or why Edge’s share increased by 0.67%. New Windows 11 computers purchased as gifts during the holiday season may have affected this. But from the next report, it will be clear whether such a change turned out to be a new trend or whether it is still a holiday anomaly.

Of course, Google Chrome has retained its undisputed leadership in the global desktop browser market until the end of 2023, and not only kept it, but even slightly improved its performance. According to StatCounter, it ended the year with a desktop browser market share of 65.29%, up 3.17%. p. more than a month ago.

But the fight for second place took an interesting turn. Microsoft Edge managed to overtake Safari to take second place with 11.89%, its highest score to date. Meanwhile, Apple’s desktop browser market share fell to 8.29%. Mozilla’s Firefox ended 2023 with a 7.61% share, while Opera accounted for 3.8% worldwide.

These figures refer only to the desktop browser market because if you add mobile devices, tablets and consoles, the picture looks a little different. Chrome is still in first place by a wide margin, but Safari is firmly in second place with a share of 18.56%. Edge’s share, meanwhile, fell to 4.97%, slightly ahead of Firefox’s 3.36%. Opera closes the top five with a share of 2.86%.

Of course, the Chrome browser is not yet an example of perfection, despite its insane popularity, but some interesting new functions appear regularly in it. For example, the ability to see the page’s memory usage when hovering over a tab.
