Steam, the largest digital game distribution platform, regularly publishes hardware statistics based on data from its users. These reports offer valuable insight into market trends and the preferences of PC gamers. The latest update, covering May 2025, gives us a clear picture of which graphics cards currently dominate the gaming landscape – and which ones are gradually falling out of favor.

The latest monthly hardware and software survey from Steam shows that Windows 11 continued to gain ground in May, reaching a 58.3% share among respondents.

This growth is largely driven by the end of support for most versions of Windows 10, with only select business editions still receiving extended updates. While Microsoft offers paid support options for legacy systems, the more straightforward path for most users is simply upgrading to Windows 11 – a trend clearly reflected in the numbers. Meanwhile, Linux remains a niche alternative, used by just 2.69% of participants. Although its share is slowly growing, it still trails far behind Windows.

Regarding hardware, the biggest changes again appear in the graphics card rankings. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 has suddenly returned to the top spot with a 4.56% share. In second and third places are the laptop and desktop versions of the RTX 4060, with 4.46% and 4.26% respectively. The laptop RTX 3060 ranks ninth with a 2.42% share, so overall the RTX 4060 remains the leader. Other popular GPUs in the top 10 include the GTX 1650, RTX 4060 Ti, 3050, 3060 Ti, 3070, and 2060, listed in descending order.

Other aspects remain mostly unchanged: users still prefer monitors with 1080p resolution, computers with 6- or 8-core processors, and 16 or 32 GB of RAM. Most respondents have storage devices with a total capacity exceeding one terabyte, typically leaving between 100 and 250 GB free.
