WhatsApp media upload quality is now controllable for beta testers

-

Users will soon get more control over their media sharing with the WhatsApp media upload quality feature. This feature is currently in its beta testing phase as the new beta version for Android brings it to a selected few. Once testing is over and this feature rolls out, users will be able to pick how they want to share images and videos with others.

Currently, when sending a picture on WhatsApp, the users can select the HD option. This will retain the quality of the image to a certain level before sending it out to the recipient. While this HD feature helps users to send out high-quality images, it’s not always active by default and that’s what this new feature aims to fix.

With this WhatsApp media upload quality feature, users will be able to pick how they want to share images and videos directly from their settings page. Beta testers pointed out that this setting is under the Storage and Data in the WhatsApp settings page. From here, users will be able to select how they want to share media such as photos and videos with other users.

There are two options available for users to pick from, and they are Standard quality and HD quality. Standard quality sends media files in small sizes, hence making them faster to send using less data. As for the HD quality option, it sends media files in larger sizes, retaining image and video quality.

To achieve HD quality, media files will be sent with more data than Standard quality. Being able to activate this feature from the settings page will help users pick exactly how they wish to send media files and keep it that way. In the coming weeks, WhatsApp users will get this feature on their devices via an OTA upgrade.
