Qualcomm is preparing to significantly raise prices for its semiconductors as early as this September, and this increase could potentially hit the wallets of buyers of the latest products. The price increase is expected to affect virtually all categories of devices powered by Snapdragon solutions.

Qualcomm components are integrated into a wide variety of devices: Android smartphones and tablets, Windows laptops, Meta smart glasses, the Galaxy Watch series, and wireless headphones. According to available information, the company has sent an official notice to all its key partners regarding an upcoming price increase of a double-digit percentage.

According to Bloomberg, the updated pricing will take effect on September 1, 2026. This means that every purchase of microchips placed by customers after that date will cost companies significantly more. The manufacturer did not take this step of its own volition. The company notes that its internal resources to offset the constant rise in costs from its own suppliers have been completely exhausted. At the same time, attempts to find alternative sources for components have not yielded the expected results.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite

The rapid boom in the construction of data centers for AI systems has led to a massive shortage and reallocation of RAM and semiconductor products – precisely the components needed to manufacture consumer electronics. The TSMC factory, which produces chips for Qualcomm, Apple, Nvidia, and many other market giants, has become the main bottleneck in the global supply chain. The plant is expanding its capacity, but Wall Street analysts predict that this strained situation will persist until 2027.

A few days ago, a Nikkei Asia report noted that the manufacturer could raise prices by 5% to 10%, depending on the specific chip model and the customer’s order volume. Since TSMC is Qualcomm’s primary contractor, it makes perfect sense that the developer would pass these additional costs on to its own customer base with an adjustment that allows it to maintain the necessary profit margins.

By and large, any device equipped with Snapdragon chips is at risk, and this list turns out to be much broader than it seems at first glance. The most obvious victims will be high-end Android smartphones from brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus. At the same time, Snapdragon chips account for an increasingly large share of the Windows PC segment, are installed in Ray-Ban glasses and Meta’s Quest headsets, power the recently unveiled Galaxy Watch 9, as well as premium tablets, gadgets with flexible screens, and many other devices.

Qualcomm’s extensive presence across various consumer electronics sectors transforms this event from a niche story about mobile phones into a major trend for the entire electronics market. The company’s stock even saw a slight increase in response to this news, as investors anticipate higher profits. Consumers, for their part, are bracing for very different consequences.

Given the deadline set for September 2026, the hardest hit will be flagship models scheduled for release in 2027 – specific release dates will depend on when brands finalize their chip contracts. Add to this the surge in the cost of memory modules, and next year risks becoming the least favorable time to buy any new electronics – not just smartphones.
