More than 5.5 years after the game’s launch in Early Access, Valheim is finally ready for its full release, and with it come a number of major updates. Developer Iron Gate and publisher Coffee Stain have confirmed that the indie game, which has sold over 17 million copies to date, has officially launched on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Linux, and Mac.
“Valheim is a survival exploration game for 1–10 players set in a procedurally generated world inspired by Viking culture,” reads the game’s description on Steam. “Craft weapons, build magnificent halls, and defeat powerful enemies. Prove to Odin that you are worthy of Valhalla!” Importantly, Valheim supports cross-play across all platforms, so friends can survive together.

Marking the game’s full release from Early Access, this major update adds the final chapter – the icy, ancient lands of the Deep North. This is the game’s final and most dangerous territory – a hostile wasteland covered in ice and snow that far surpasses all previous regions: its area is approximately 2.5 times larger than any other biome in the game.
This region was once inhabited by the kingdom’s first Vikings, and its decaying ruins hide ancient secrets and ghostly mysteries. It is home to new deadly enemies, including the Gammeltroll, Elakingar, and Barka, as well as an ancient horror lurking deep beneath the ground.

Fortunately, with the Valheim 1.0 patch, players will gain an expanded arsenal, including 4 new armor sets and 2 cloaks, over 40 types of weapons, bombs, ammunition, and specialized tools necessary for survival in the Arctic climate. In addition, the game will feature over 80 new building elements, over 30 new crafting materials, over 20 new food items, and upgradeable backpacks. Along with these, new music, locations, events, mechanics, and achievements will be available.

Iron Gate has also teamed up with Brikk Animation to create a spectacular cinematic trailer in which a Valkyrie transports players to the Norse world. Additional story-driven cutscenes now play after defeating key bosses, and rumor has it that a secret cutscene is hidden somewhere amid the Arctic winds.
The developer and publisher also provided a recap of the entire history of updates to the game in Early Access for those who have played it before but stopped playing after a while.
