Large tech companies continue to actively implement artificial intelligence in all possible elements of their services, and Google is at the forefront in this regard. Another example of this trend is a new feature in Google Photos that allows turning your own photos into memes using AI. The innovation is called Me Meme and actually opens up the possibility for users to make themselves the main character of humorous visual content without any third-party applications.

The Me Meme feature has been added to the Create section of Google Photos and is positioned as a tool for creating funny, personalized images to share with friends and family. The service is focused on quick results and a minimum number of steps, so it takes only a few seconds to create a meme.

To get a ready-made meme, a user selects one of the available templates in the built-in library and then adds the photo they want to use. After that, the system automatically generates the final image, which is ready to be published or sent. You can save an already created meme to your Google Photos library, re-generate it if you don’t like the result, or instantly send it via messengers and social networks.

Currently, Google has started to gradually open access to Me Meme for Google Photos users in the United States. The feature is still in the experimental stage, so it does not appear in all accounts at the same time. The company has not yet specified when the tool will become available in other regions and whether it will be supplemented with additional features.

It is also unclear whether Me Meme will include templates based on well-known classic Internet memes. This is likely not to happen due to copyright issues, so users will continue to have to turn to third-party online generators to create full-fledged memes in familiar formats. At the same time, it is possible that, given the current state of social media, which is full of AI content, the next viral meme may be born within someone’s Google Photos library.

Google’s recent steps indicate that the company deliberately encourages users to create AI versions of themselves and actively distribute such content on the Internet. Only the day before, YouTube CEO Neil Mohan announced new tools that would allow authors to record Shorts using their own images generated by artificial intelligence. However, he did not explain how this tool will work together with the similarity detection system introduced last October. At the same time, Neil Mohan promised that YouTube would fight against AI among clickbait content and spam.
