Google is preparing a large-scale update of the interface of its payment application, introducing a Material 3 Expressive design. This became known through the analysis of the code (APK teardown) of version v26.12.886012413.

Although rumors of visual changes have been circulating for several months, the latest findings finally demonstrate how Google Wallet is being transformed. Despite the presence of updated code in the latest build, these innovations are currently hidden from the general public and are being tested, so the appearance may remain the same after the app is updated.

The section with cards and passes has undergone the biggest transformations. Previously, each element was displayed as a rectangle with rounded corners in the center, but now the graphic design fills the entire screen.

This is not only an aesthetic, but also a functional solution: users will be able to instantly see key data such as the cardholder’s name, pass number, date of addition, and important labels without having to open each card individually. Another notable detail is the star-shaped icon in the upper right corner, which will indicate selected passes, allowing users to navigate through a large number of documents faster.

This redesign is part of Google’s broader strategy to gradually update all of its key apps with the Material 3 Expressive style. Similar changes are already appearing in Gmail, Google Drive, and other services, which indicates the company’s systemic transition to a new visual standard.

In previous updates of Google Wallet, the company has already tested new icons, changed buttons, updated payment animations, and a more structured display of transactions, which makes the interface more coherent and modern.

The author of the material notes that Google Wallet is confidently catching up with its main competitor from Apple, offering an increasingly thoughtful and convenient user experience. In the context of the global redesign of Android and the Google ecosystem, this update does not look like a point update, but part of a larger transformation that should unify the look and logic of interaction with the company’s services.
