OPPO has officially unveiled the K15 Pro, and its concept looks as pragmatic as possible: the device is designed to work steadily under high loads without overheating and is able to withstand conditions that are usually critical for most flagships.
The main feature of the device is the built-in cooling fan, which is IPX9 protected. This combination looks atypical for a smartphone. K15 Pro uses the Gale Cooling Engine system with an intelligent algorithm that automatically activates the fan depending on the load. The manufacturer claims that this component meets the requirements of IPX9, which implies resistance to hot water jets under high pressure.
The smartphone is capable of continuously recording 4K video at 60 frames per second without performance degradation. Testing was conducted at a temperature of 30°C outdoors in direct sunlight. Such conditions are usually considered critical for cooling systems, as they cause overheating and a subsequent decrease in processor frequency, which leads to a drop in fps or complete cessation of recording.
A waterproof fan solution is technically challenging. Effective cooling requires airflow, which means holes in the case. It is through these holes that dust and water usually enter. It is a major engineering challenge to meet the IPX9 standard for a system that has moving parts and airflow. OPPO was able to realize this design, which in itself deserves special attention.
The IPX9 standard means protection not only from rain or splashes, but also from high-pressure hot water. These are much stricter requirements than most typical certifications, especially if you take into account the presence of moving components that need to draw in air.
In addition, the smartphone received full protection according to the IP69 standard. This means that the device is dustproof and resistant to high temperature and pressure water jets at the level of the entire body, not just individual elements. The device thus combines efficient cooling with increased durability, making it suitable for use on construction sites, during outdoor activities, or filming in harsh weather conditions.
The automatic fan start function allows the system to independently manage thermal conditions without user intervention. The combination of an IPX9-rated internal fan and an IP69-rated overall enclosure looks like an atypical engineering achievement for this segment.
At the time of the presentation, full specifications, including processor, display, battery, and price, had not yet been disclosed. At the same time, the available data on the cooling system and the level of protection form a clear positioning of the K15 Pro as a device that stands out from the competition in the mid-range segment.
