Local residents published photos and videos from the scene, which were later circulated via Telegram channels Exilenova+ and Dnipro OSINT ⟨Hharbuz⟩. The footage shows a strong explosion followed by a subsequent fire. The use of missiles was also confirmed by local authorities. Reports indicate that a missile alert was issued in the region overnight, and air raid sirens were activated in the city.

Following analysis of the published materials, OSINT analysts confirmed damage to a building at the VNIIR-Progress facility.

According to several Telegram channels, air raid alerts were reportedly issued even in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, located approximately 2,000 km from the border with Ukraine. If confirmed, this would represent the first such instance recorded in that region. Overall, during the night of May 5, reports indicate that missile alerts were activated across 18 regions of Russia, and temporary flight restrictions were introduced at 18 airports.

In the morning over Cheboksary, eyewitnesses reportedly observed activity described as Ukrainian strike drones “Lyutyi” and the operation of Russian air defense systems.

A video showing launches of “Flamingo” missiles was published on President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Twitter account. In the post, it is stated that during the previous night, combat launches of FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missiles were carried out as part of a Ukrainian Armed Forces Deep Strike operation against multiple targets, including facilities of the military-industrial complex in Cheboksary. The message claims that the missiles covered a distance of more than 1,500 km. It also states that the targeted facility produced relay protection systems, automation equipment, and low-voltage electrical components, and allegedly supplied navigation-related elements for the Russian Navy, missile industry, aviation, and armored vehicle production.

The VNIIR-Progress facility is located approximately 1,000 km from the border with Ukraine in the Chuvash Republic and is part of the industrial group ABS Electro. According to available descriptions, the enterprise is involved in the production of GNSS receivers and antennas for satellite navigation systems such as GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo for military applications. Reported products include modules of the “Kometa” type, which are said to be used in unmanned systems such as Shahed-type loitering munitions, as well as in missile systems including Iskander-M, Kalibr, and guidance kits for aerial bombs.

The facility is also reported to manufacture electrical engineering components such as circuit breakers, relays, and contactless modules supplied to the Russian Navy. These systems are described as being used, among others, in nuclear-powered submarines of the Yasen-M class submarine.
