Japanese game development and publishing company CAPCOM has made an unexpected gift to its fans. The studio has released a free demo of Resident Evil Requiem for all platforms: PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and Nintendo Switch 2.

According to CAPCOM, the demo allows you to play through some of the early stages of the game. However, there is a caveat. Unlike the latest demos of other games, saves cannot be transferred to the full version after purchasing it. This means that users will have to replay those parts of the game that they have already completed in the Resident Evil Requiem demo.

Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil fans are already used to receiving demos before the launch of new installments in the series. The Resident Evil 2 Remake demo called 1-Shot Demo was released on January 11, 2019, exactly two weeks before the full game was released. Players had a strict time limit of 30 minutes and could complete it only once. It was available until January 31, 2019. Later, on December 12, 2019, CAPCOM released the R.P.D. Demo, which is still available and has no time limit.

For Resident Evil Village, CAPCOM organized a multi-stage release of demos. On April 17, a PlayStation-exclusive demo of the Village location was released with a 30-minute time limit and an eight-hour access window. A week later, a PlayStation-exclusive demo of the Castle location was released with similar restrictions. Between May 1 and May 9, the demo with both zones became available on all platforms, and initially it was available only during the day, but later the access period was extended to a full week. At the same time, there was a limit of one hour of play. The full version of the game was released on May 7, 2021. A permanent demo was also released along with the Gold Edition in October 2022.

For Resident Evil 4 Remake, the Chainsaw Demo became available on March 9, 2023, 15 days before the full game was released. It covered Leon’s arrival in the village and remained available without any time limit from the moment of launch.

In the case of Resident Evil Requiem, CAPCOM waited a full three months before releasing the demo. Before the launch, producer Masato Kumazawa stated that the studio wanted to focus its efforts on the full version of the game. Probably, weak commercial results could have forced CAPCOM to release the demo much earlier, but the game set records for the series – more than 6 million copies were sold in the first three weeks. Most likely, CAPCOM decided that the most loyal fans had already purchased the game, but the demo might encourage other users to give it a try.

Besides, insiders claim that CAPCOM is working on a storyline expansion, but for now, it offers players the LEON MUST DIE FOREVER bonus mode.
