The latest title in the Far Cry franchise has successfully completed the pre-production phase at Ubisoft and has moved into full-scale production at Vantage Studios. This news comes amid difficulties with the development of another spin-off in the series, tentatively titled Maverick – an extraction shooter whose development was ultimately shut down entirely.

The upcoming game, currently codenamed Kodiak, is positioned as an open-world first-person shooter with a strong emphasis on player interaction and user-generated storylines.

Kodiak completed its concept development phase earlier this month. It is being developed based on ideas from the canceled Maverick, but the series, fortunately, is moving away from attempts to conquer the extraction shooter market… At least at this stage. Insiders describe the project as “truly ambitious,” though its official release is still several years away.

Meanwhile, Blackbird, the next main installment in the Far Cry series, has also faced certain difficulties during production and has been delayed internally on multiple occasions due to emerging issues. However, development now appears to be back on track, and the title will feature a multiplayer mode that will allow players to explore and experience the game world alongside others.

During an internal interview with Vantage Studios, Charlie Guimo described Blackbird as a “truly impressive” project and referred to it as “Act One.” This hints at plans to release an entire series of mainline FAR CRY games with a similar concept, provided the debut release receives positive reviews.

The Kodiak project has become another addition to Vantage Studios’ production portfolio, designed to help the Assassin’s Creed, FAR CRY, and Rainbow Six Siege maintain their dominant market positions by offering a unique gaming experience to a diverse audience.
