The adventure action game Mafia: The Old Country, developed by the American studio Hangar 13 and published by 2K, has finally been officially released. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. It serves as a prequel to the original Mafia and is the fourth main installment in the series.
“Discover the origins of organized crime in this gritty mafia story set in the brutal underworld of Sicily in the 1900s,” reads the description on the game’s Steam page. “Fight to survive as Enzo Favara and prove your worth to the Family in this engaging third-person adventure set in a dangerous and ruthless era.”

The developers describe the game as an intense third-person adventure crime action title that retains the atmosphere and distinctive style of the Mafia series.
Loyal players are rewarded: anyone who has previously played any game from the Mafia trilogy and logs into their 2K account will receive in-game bonuses. New players also have incentives – by creating a new 2K account and logging in, they can unlock additional rewards for Mafia: The Old Country.
“It’s hard to believe that almost nine years have passed since the release of Mafia III. A lot has changed at Hangar 13, but looking back, we can proudly say that one thing has stayed the same: our passion for creating cinematic game narratives,” the developers said. “We believe there will always be a place in the industry for this type of game, something we’ve confirmed through the response to Mafia: Definitive Edition. It reminded us how much we enjoy making games in this style and how much you, our fans, enjoy playing them.”
The game will feature intense one-on-one combat with opponents using blades, as well as ambush attacks involving firearms. Players can engage in hand-to-hand fights or arm themselves with period-appropriate pistols, rifles, and shotguns to take down Don’s enemies. Additionally, the game allows exploration of various parts of Sicily – from underground crypts and abandoned ruins to sprawling vineyards and ornate opera houses. Movement will include traveling through cobblestone streets, open fields, and dirt roads in early 20th-century vehicles.

The developers also shared a few tips for moving stealthily in the game:
- Use Enzo’s “Instinct” ability, which lets him see through objects and detect nearby enemies.
- Many areas have spots where you can hide bodies.
- Don’t forget to throw coins or bottles to distract enemies.
- Some stealth sections may have multiple entry or exit points that Enzo can use.
- Throw the Scannaturi knife to perform a stealth kill from a distance. Just make sure to retrieve it afterward!
In less than a day, users submitted nearly 1,500 reviews, with 83% of them being positive. On the aggregator Metacritic, the game holds an average score of 76 out of 100 based on 55 reviews, while OpenCritic rates it at 77. According to SteamDB, the game had a peak concurrent player count of 27,585.
