Agents of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense carried out a successful sabotage operation that resulted in the shutdown of an industrial substation in Königsberg (modern-day Kaliningrad). The substation had been supplying electricity to strategically important facilities of Russia’s military-industrial complex and armed forces.
According to available information, in the early hours of June 14 – around 4 a.m. – Ukrainian intelligence operatives infiltrated the grounds of a substation located in Kaliningrad, the westernmost region of the Russian Federation. During the operation, they drained the coolant from a power transformer and then set it on fire. The resulting blaze, which was part of the planned sabotage, led to a complete power outage at nearby facilities. Preliminary estimates put the damage inflicted on Russian infrastructure at close to $5 million.

Representatives of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate emphasized that the Russian Federation no longer has a safe rear – neither in the east, nor in the west, nor anywhere else in the world. A source within the intelligence services stated that anything connected to Russia’s military machine involved in the war against Ukraine will inevitably be destroyed – whether underwater, in the air, or on land – regardless of its level of protection or geographic location.

The Kaliningrad region remains a vulnerable Russian enclave situated between Poland and Lithuania. It hosts numerous military and technical assets, including missile systems, air bases, weapons depots, and logistics hubs that support the supply and operational readiness of Russian forces in the area. Its geographic isolation from the rest of Russia makes the enclave particularly susceptible to attacks of this kind.
The operation marks one of the deepest strikes carried out during the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, demonstrating the capability of Ukrainian intelligence to reach targets deep within the enemy’s strategic rear.
Earlier, on June 12, details emerged of another special operation by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate: Ukrainian cyber specialists, in cooperation with a group of activists, carried out a large-scale cyberattack on one of Russia’s largest internet providers – Orion Telecom. The operation disabled 370 servers and around 500 network switches. Additionally, all backup data was destroyed, significantly disrupting the capabilities of Russian intelligence services and the aggressor state’s broader information infrastructure.
