Meta social media apps faced a bit of an outage globally

-

Just a few hours ago, all three Meta social media apps faced some issues, leading to an outage. According to some reports at the onset of this outage, this was a global occurrence, with all users of these platforms. WhatsApp seemed to be the most affected by this outage, as users of the social media platform were struggling to send or receive messages.

Instagram and Facebook both faced some partial outages, but both weren’t as serious as that of WhatsApp. This will be yet another experience for Meta, as a similar outage hit Facebook a few weeks ago. Well, the outage that users faced a few hours ago is now over, and we get to learn a few things about it.

During the outage, users of WhatsApp in particular weren’t able to receive messages or see status updates. Most users get the prompt that they might have new messages, but no messages arrive on their devices. These users were able to send messages, but these were all pending until the Meta social media app service came back online.

This outage lasted for about two hours, but for some reason didn’t affect all users of the various Meta social media apps. I noted that a few friends were still able to access WhatsApp and Instagram during the outage. With all services now back online, users of these various platforms (WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook) can now use the services without interruptions.

The reason for this outage is still unclear at this point, but various media outlets are reaching out to Meta for comments. During the two-hour outage, users of these Meta services globally got to engage themselves in various activities while waiting for things to normalize. Did you experience this outage on either WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram?
