During the Galaxy Unpacked presentation, Google’s Samir Samat said on stage that the next version of Android will offer “amazing features”. According to him, the upcoming release of Android 17 will bring significant changes, the details of which the company plans to reveal later.
Samat, who serves as president of the Android ecosystem at Google, emphasized that the platform is gradually transforming from a traditional operating system to an intelligent system. He noted that the new stage of Android development involves creating an environment that can better understand the user and work more efficiently in accordance with their needs. In terms of positioning and communication, this means further development of Android with AI as a key element of the architecture.

According to Samat, the next release of Android has many important innovations planned, which the company will share in more detail in the coming months. He was talking about Android 17, the beta version of which became available earlier this month. Google has not yet disclosed the main features of the upcoming release, as only the first preview version of the system has been published.
Traditionally, key Android innovations are presented at the Google I/O conference, but this year the development of Android 17 should be mostly completed by May before the stable release scheduled for June. At the same time, the company can use the conference to present features that will appear later in quarterly updates of the platform. The largest of them should again be QPR2, which is expected to be released in December.

During his speech, Samat also mentioned the next stage of Gemini development, which will allow performing more tasks directly on the smartphone. These features will first appear on the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 series devices next month. On a technical level, they are likely to be related to the screen automation features that will become available with Android 16 QPR3.
