Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with Blur Studios and Games Workshop, has begun development on an animated series set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, as exclusively reported by Variety. It was also revealed that Henry Cavill, who has already been cast as the lead actor in Amazonβs upcoming Warhammer 40,000 series, will also serve as an executive producer on this animated series. Work on this project is proceeding in parallel with the live-action adaptation.

This animated project will be a spin-off from Amazonβs animated anthology Secret Level, which released a standalone episode dedicated to Warhammer 40,000 in late 2024. Secret Level was produced by Blur Studios, while Games Workshop is the company behind the original tabletop miniatures game.
Dave Wilson, who directed the Warhammer 40,000 episode for Secret Level and led the directing team for the entire anthology, has been named co-creator and director of the new animated series. He is working on the project alongside John Orloff, known for his work on *Masters of the Air* and *Band of Brothers*.
Specific plot details have not yet been disclosed, except that the story will focus on the Deathwatch β an elite unit of Space Marines specializing in the elimination of extraterrestrial threats.
Secret Level creator Tim Miller will serve as executive producer alongside Wilson from Blur Studios, as well as Cavill and Natalie Viskuso. In addition, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Andy Smiley of Games Workshop are serving as executive producers. The series is being developed in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios and Games Workshop.
According to Wilson, Secret Level was conceived from the very beginning not as a typical anthology series, but as a launching pad for larger story arcs. He noted that the response to the Warhammer episode was extraordinary, especially from fans who appreciated the attention to detail and care taken to accurately portray this universe. Wilson emphasized that the new series provides an opportunity to build on this foundation and tell a much larger story. He added that he had been striving to bring the long-running Warhammer 40,000 story to life for over 20 years and expressed his boundless gratitude to Games Workshop and Amazon MGM Studios for this opportunity.
This announcement marks yet another addition to Amazonβs roster of projects based on gaming franchises. In addition to Secret Level, Prime Video is currently streaming the popular Fallout series adaptation and is preparing to film the Tomb Raider series, starring Sophie Turner in the lead role. In addition, Amazon is working on a God of War series, though it is currently searching for a new lead actor following an on-set injury to Ryan Hurst, who played Kratos.
Production has also recently begun on the TV series adaptation of *Life Is Strange*, and adaptations of games such as *Mass Effect* and *Wolfenstein* are currently in development.
