Motorola is integrating built-in magnetic wireless charging into its Edge series devices, and the upcoming Edge 70 Max will be the first model to feature this technology.
This smartphone appeared in the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) certification database on June 29. The published information confirms the device’s compatibility with the current Qi 2.2.1 standard and the MPP25 power profile. Thanks to these specifications, the device is capable of receiving wireless power at up to 25 W. However, the most significant detail is the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) certification, which indicates that special magnets are integrated directly into the phone’s body.

While most manufacturers of Android-based devices limit themselves to the basic level of Qi2 (Basic Power Profile) even in their most expensive flagship models, currently only the HMD Skyline and the Google Pixel 10 lineup offer users factory-built-in magnets. With Motorola’s new device, you won’t need to buy specialized cases with magnetic rings for the system to work properly. In addition to significantly speeding up the wireless charging process, these features simplify interaction with various accessories, such as wallets, car mounts, or tripods.
Fans of the Apple ecosystem have long enjoyed this convenience thanks to MagSafe, and now Motorola is joining this exclusive club alongside HMD and Google. Rumor has it that Samsung also plans to incorporate integrated magnets into its upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra model. This is a small but significant improvement that a large portion of the Android audience has been waiting for for a long time.

Preliminary unofficial details about the Edge 70 Max look quite promising. The device is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which will deliver high performance, as well as a main camera module based on a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-710 sensor with a 1/1.56 inches. The model’s screen will feature a modern flat design. Buyers will be offered three body color options: green, light blue, and black, giving the device a fresh and premium look.
Overall, it seems that with the release of the Edge 70 Max, Motorola aims to offer a well-balanced premium gadget, whose creators didn’t simply compete over specs, but focused on practical features for everyday use. The acquisition of this certification clearly suggests that the official launch of the new device is just around the corner.
