Motorola has created a potentially successful alternative to the iPad – one that Android fans have been waiting for so long. The new Moto Pad 70 has the potential to be the affordable tablet that finally meets all users’ basic needs. Motorola has announced the Moto Pad 70 – a new mid-range Android tablet. The device features a large, vivid display, stylus support, 5G connectivity, and a high-capacity battery.
The new device will debut on the market on August 8. Thanks to its 12.1-inch screen with 2.5K resolution, the inclusion of the proprietary Moto Pen stylus, a 10,200 mAh battery, and 68-watt fast charging, the device is likely to appeal to buyers considering Apple’s entry-level iPad. However, the mid-range Dimensity 6400 chipset used here is unlikely to compete with Apple’s tablet in terms of pure computing power.

Can this new device become a more affordable alternative to the iPad? By all accounts, Motorola is counting on winning over customers with a favorable price-to-performance ratio rather than record-breaking performance. The 12.1-inch display is larger than that of a standard iPad, and its peak brightness of up to 800 nits, combined with wide DCI-P3 color coverage, makes it an excellent choice for watching videos, reading, and creative tasks.
The inclusion of the Moto Pen in the package significantly enhances the appeal of this purchase. This accessory recognizes pressure sensitivity and tilt angle while ignoring accidental palm touches, offering a ready-to-use tool for creating drawings and notes without the need to spend money on additional accessories. In addition, Motorola will offer a magnetic keyboard case for comfortable typing and performing simple work tasks.
The 10,200 mAh battery ensures long battery life when watching media or studying, while 68 W fast charging is a rare advantage for devices in this segment. Motorola managed to fit such a high-capacity battery into a body that’s only 6.29 mm thick and weighs 530 g, so the battery doesn’t make the device bulky or heavy. Four speakers with Dolby Atmos support and 5G compatibility reinforce the tablet’s position as a high-quality multimedia center.
Performance speed, however, is where the Pad 70 falls short compared to its competitors. The Dimensity 6400 processor is more than sufficient for web browsing, online videos, video calls, note-taking, and everyday multitasking with several apps at once. However, it will struggle to compete with Apple processors in demanding games, video editing, professional creative software, and resource-intensive tasks.
Motorola promises only two full Android OS updates, although security patches will continue to be released until 2030. In terms of specifications, the Moto Pad 70 is very similar to the Lenovo Idea Tab Plus, which was released last September at a price of around €300.
